Raiders: Work in progress

It's actually more fitting to talk about what's not new in Oakland.

The start of a new season once again brings a new coach, a shaky quarterback situation and a hopelessly dismal outlook.

Specifically for fantasy owners, there are only a few names to consider drafting, like RB Darren McFadden, RB Justin Fargas, WR Johnnie Lee Higgins and TE Zach Miller. Yes, that's right, forget about first-round pick WR Darrius Heyward-Bey on draft day.

The Raiders' offense is built around unproven players: Russell at quarterback, McFadden at running back, average wide receivers and a below-average offensive line. Oakland looks primed to repeat as the 29th-ranked total offense in the league - right where it finished last season.

On defense, the Raiders brought in DE Greg Ellis and S Keith Davis and re-signed DB Nnamdi Asomugha. Those moves don't inspire much confidence in reviving a defense that ranked No. 27 last season.

So outside of a handful of players, the 2009 Oakland Raiders read like a handbook of "who not to draft" for your fantasy team.
