Blockbuster Trade HELP REQUIRED

Postby squirrelly » Thu Jul 09, 2009 2:48 pm

I was offered Fitzgerald and Slaton for Boldin and Chris Johnson.

It's a points per reception league. I think this is a no brainer unless Slaton is going to lose a significant amount of carries to his back-up?

No way.
1) The Houston HC staff has been talking constantly about cutting back on Slaton's carries and giving them to a big back. There are several mediocre candidates on roster for that role;
2) Fitz is a Madden coverboy this season;
3) Boldin is a possession WR and his value rises significantly in PPR leagues;
4) Fisher et al have been talking about getting CJ more involved in the offense- more rush attempts, more receptions.

It's an even more-emphatic "NO" if it's a dynasty league.

You know what?

I would snap this deal up in a heartbeat.

Fitzgerald is so much better than Boldin it isn't funny. Slaton and C Johnson are even in my book, and I think Slaton will get way more TD's than Johnson. He had more receptions than C Johnson in '08 -- 50 to 43.

Maybe Houston would like to limit Slaton's carries, but there isn't anyone to trust with that job. Chris Brown? Don't make me laugh. He'll have a hard time surviving the pre-season healthy.

Ryan Moats? Unproven.

I like Chris Johnson but he's in a RBBC with LenDale White, and White gets the goal-line carries.

Take this deal and run with it before the other owner comes to his senses.

OK- which side are you getting, Slaton or Johnson?
Is this a dynasty?

I disagree with you Hank Scorpio. I don't see how you can say that Fitz is so much better than Boldin that it isn't funny. Let's look at the numbers:

2008:
Boldin: 89 rec, 1038 yards, 11 TD's also, 9 rushes for 67 yards in 12 games
Fitz: 96 rec, 1,434 yards, 12 TD's, no rushing yards in 16 games

2007:
Boldin: 71 rec, 853 yards, 9 TD's, 1 rush 14 yards in 12 games
Fitz: 101 rec, 1,412 yards, 10 TD's, no rushes in 15 games

2006:
Boldin: 83 rec, 1,203 yards, 4 TD's, 5 rushes 28 yards in 16 games
Fitz: 68 rec, 941 yards, 6 TD's, 1 rush for 5 yards in 13 games

2005:
Boldin: 102 rec, 1,398 yards, 7 TD's, 12 rushes for 45 yards in 14 games
Fitz: 103 rec, 1,409 yards, 10 TD's, 8 rushes for 41 yards in 16 games

2004:
Boldin: 56 rec, 623 yards, 1 TD's, 1 rush for 3 yards in 10 games
Fitz: 58 rec, 780 yards, 8 TD's, 8 rushes for 14 yards in 16 games

In the five years Fitz/Boldin have been in the league:
Boldin has averaged 80.2 catches, 1,023 yards and 6.4 TD's a year
Fitz has averaged 85.2 catches, 1,195 yards and 9.2 TD's a year

I don't see how you can say that Fitz in Boldin are not even close. A healthy Boldin can put up very similar if not better numbers than Fitz in a PPR league. But, Boldin does come with a lot more risk. He does seem to get injured every year and he is in a contract dispute.

It's a 5-keeper PPR dynasty league.
I currently have Boldin, Chris Johnson, Jones-Drew, Rivers, and Greg Jennings on my roster. 12 teams in this league

Seems like the vote is 50-50 on this one.

TruNiner,

My saying Fitz is better than Boldin is more of an opinion than to be backed up statistically. He is better, he is younger. And imo Fitzgerald's stats would go up if Boldin were to move on, because he'd get more targets with Boldin gone.

I think Fitz is second only to Jerry Rice as the best receiver ever, and Fitz has a chance to eclipse Jerry.

And Boldin's stats would go up if Fitzgerald were to move on...I fail to see how that is even an argument. The "Fitz is second only to Jerry Rice" statement is one of the most ridiculous I've ever heard...he could very well be one of the best by the time he's done but he is NO WHERE NEAR that point yet.

Personally, as far as this deal goes, I'd pass. I like Chris Johnson more than Slaton for fantasy purposes and Boldin is an absolute monster in ppr leagues...you keep what you have. You know how many receivers averaged more points per game in ppr last year than Boldin did? ZERO. He averaged over 2 points per game more than Fitz did, was targeted more than Fitz was (10.5 per game to 9.6 per game), averaged more receptions (7.4 to 6 per game), and more TDs (.9 to .75 per game). Fitz only averaged more yards and even then, only 3 more yards per game. I think at the very least, those two are a wash with a slight edge to Fitz just because of age but I think the bigger difference is in Johnson more than Slaton....but either way, if you're not really getting better, then why make a move?

I take the deal Hands down......

Not a C Johnson fan.....with White there talking 10-15 tds....just limits him......

If Boldin and Fitz both stay....I give a slight edge to Fitz, but splitting hairs....

Take it and Run!!!!
