Better Pick for Me At This Spot? WHIR!

Postby Swipe79 » Sat Jul 11, 2009 7:30 pm

We're in the 16th round in our 12 team keeper league. Each team is allowed a 30 player roster, with 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 DL, 2 LB, and 2 DB active. We keep up to 20 players, but if you keep fewer, you are compensated with picks. Our scoring breaks down as;

1 point per 75 passing yard, 1 point per 1 PaTD, -1 point per INT, -1 point per fumble
1 point per 33 rush/rec yards, 1 point per 1 RuTD or ReTD, -1 point per fumble
1 point per 3 Individual Tackles, 1 point per sack, 1 point per Forced Fumble, 1 point per DeTD, 1 point per INT

My current roster is;
QB - Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Marc Bulger
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson, Frank Gore, Willis McGahee, LeSean McCoy, Fred Jackson
WR - Dwayne Bowe, DeSean Jackson, Hines Ward, Michael Crabtree, Donald Driver, Jeremy Maclin
TE - Owen Daniels
K -
DL -
LB -
DB -

I was thinking of taking Shonn Greene at my next pick (186th overall). I was also looking at Patrick Crayton as a possibility (is he the #2 WR in Dallas?), or possibly a defensive player. Here is an idea of possible players at this point (top few at each position);

QB - Derek Anderson
RB - Jamaal Charles, Jerome Harrison, Shonn Greene
WR - Nate Washington, Nate Burleson, Patrick Crayton, Hakeem Nicks
DL - Tamba Hali, Bryan Thomas, Adewale Ogunleye, Aaron Schobel, Mathias Kiwanuka
LB - Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Julian Peterson, Will Witherspoon, James Farrior
DB - Ronde Barber, Eric Weddle, Sean Jones, Antrell Rolle

Any thoughts?

I'd be looking at Greene or Harrison to take here. I'd probably lean towards Greene though because I think he's got a better shot at being a legitimate starter than Harrison does...I think Harrison will give you more production now but his upside is somewhat limited I think (just think Leon Washington style role where he "could" possibly start but probably won't get the chance). I think by the 2010 season we'll see Greene as the starter for the Jets so you should go with him here.

I like Harrison at this spot. He is a high upside player sitting behind a high-mileage vet. He will be given the opportunity to be the starter in 2010 if he performs well this year... and I believe Mangini will give him opportunities that Crennel never did.

I'm not as high on Greene as I don't see him as any more than a short-yardage back. The knock on him coming out of college is that he can't block to save his life. Just like rebounding in basketball, some guys get it, some guys don't. And a RB that can't block is not going to get a lot of PT outside of obvious running situations. Maybe he will get it one day, but blocking/pass pro is one of the toughest things for a RB to pick up in the NFL... I think it may be awhile before Greene gets a chance to show what he can do.

I would take Greene. I think that he will be the goal line back this year and could very well be the starter next year.
