Who to Keep?? WHIR

Postby jonboy418 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:21 pm

I'm having difficulty with figuring out who to keep from my roster. I get to keep 3 players. Whichever player I keep, I sacrifice the round that they were selected from the previous year draft. If they were picked up on the wire or through free agency, they take up a last pick of the draft.

8 team league, PPR, standard roster plus a UTIL player from any offensive position (instead of the WR/TE).

This is my current roster along with the round I would sacrifice in the draft:
Donovan McNabb, Phi QB - 6th round
Larry Johnson, KC RB - 18th round
Dominic Rhodes, Buf RB - 18th round
Dwayne Bowe, KC WR - 7th round
Vincent Jackson, SD WR - 18th round
Tony Gonzalez, Atl TE - 18th round
Matt Schaub, Hou QB - 18th round
Ravens D/ST, Bal D/ST - 18th round
David Akers, Phi K - 18th round
Frank Gore, SF RB - 1st round
Braylon Edwards, Cle WR - 2nd round
Torry Holt, Jac WR - 3rd round
Ben Roethlisberger, Pit QB - 4th round
Rashard Mendenhall, Pit RB - 12th round
Jamal Lewis, Cle RB - 18th round
Laveranues Coles, Cin WR - 18th round
Eddie Royal, Den WR - 18th round
Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB - 4th round

I think the only no brainer is MJD. Larry Johnson and Jamal Lewis are teasers, but I'm not too interested in them at all. I'm leaning for Frank Gore (I am the 7th pick in the draft, so he probably won't be available when I can select). Then Matt Schaub since I can use the UTIL spot for a 2nd string QB, and Schaub would cost me an 18th rounder. But I also like Royal and Bowe. What's your suggestion?

MJD, Schaub and either VJax or Royal. Gore will be very good this year but won't exceed MJD+whomever you pick in the first round.

You've got a pretty good handle on it. MJD in the 4th is a no-brainer. I'd keep Gore, he is still young and, as an added bonus, should have a great year. With only three keepers and eight teams, I'm not sure I'd keep any QB this side of Drew Brees. Still, I'd put it between VJax and Schaub. I like Bowe, but those other two only cost you a last-round pick.

in an 8 team league, you're going to need studs to be competitive.

MJD
Gore

and i like Royal in PPR, and he's basically free.

I'd go Donovan, MJD and Royal. That way you still get a 1rst round pick. Donovan will be good this year, he has lots of weapons.

+1.

Gore would not be available with the 7th pick in a 3 player keeper league

I would bet Royal outperforms Bowe anyway, and like lug said, Royal is free.

After the top 2 or 3, most QB's are the same. You can get equal or better talent than McNabb and Schaub in your draft.

Keep MJD, Gore, and Royal.

I'm changing my outlook on this and approaching it this way:

1. Keep players I would not be able to redraft.
That means Gore and MJD.

2. Keep players that have the highest value.
I'm guessing that means it between Schaub, Royal, V-Jax and Tony Gonzo.
I'm now leaning towards Gonzo since he's the elite at the position and has the highest ADP. I wouldn't even have to worry about TE in the draft and the pool of WR in an 8 team league would be fine without taking a 2nd tier QB or WR.

Gore, MJD, Tony Gonzalez?

No, no, no, no, no,,,

Don't waste a keeper spot on a 33 year-old tight end who averaged only 4 TD's in the 3 seasons before last year.

PPR
91 Receptions
PPR
as a ROOKIE
PPR
Eddie Royal
PPR

KEEP MJD, GORE, AND ROYAL!!!!!!

Rocket science is hard. This is easy. ;-D

You don't think Cutler leaving town and Orton coming in will have any ill effects?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Royal. But I do have that concern.
