Draft positioning

Postby Ronak » Wed Jul 22, 2009 2:06 pm

We all know that the position you draft in can have major effects of how you draft your particular team. What I want to discuss is what stratagies is everyone employing or planning on employing for what draft position. I've done a number of mocks over the last few days and I've found that I seem to get the most value out of the 9th pick. The drafts I've done have been standard drafts in a 12 team league. What is everyone elses opinions of this years draft positioning?

Alot people like to draft towards the bottom and grap a good Rb and Solid Wr or 2wr. It's all in the flow of ur draft. Because if u have 1.1 and get AP then have 2.12 most rb will be taken so its' harder to pick early.

I took this question a little bit differently as our league is very active with trading and we all like to trade draft picks as well. This is also referencing a 12 team league. From a static draft point, I would either want one of the first 2 picks this year or one of the last 2 picks in the first round. To me, you take ADP/MJD up front or a solid RB and top tier WR at the back end with your first 2 picks.

But in our league with trading, I went a different route. The first round stays the same but from a value point of view, I'd say to trade down to the end of the 1st. Then in the 2nd round, I'd want one of the first 4 picks. After that, I'd personally be trading off any mid 2nd to mid 3rd round picks as the value there is a huge log jam to me in an effort to stock up on more late 3rd and 4th round picks where I feel serious value can be had.

As an example in a 12 team league this year after a few trades, I currently have the following picks for the first 10 rounds. 1.11-2.04-3.09-4.02-4.04-5.05-7.05-8.08-9.11-10.08. And I did this starting off with the 5th overall pick in a traditional alternating draft setup.
