Who do you think will have a better season this year:
Matt Hasselbeck Matt Schaub Matt Ryan Matt Cassel
For me it would have to be Schaub if you take away his injury concerns. When healthy he puts up huge numbers with A. Johnson, Owen Daniels, and Slaton catching out of the backfield.
So this year I think Ryan would have the best year. I think he will build on a great rookie year, and getting Gonzo helps a lot.
Matt Cassel, hard to say now. He could easily come out on top just throwing to Bowe all the time. I know they lost Gonzo but their new TE could surprise.
Hasselbeck, another guy coming back from injury, he's got Housh now, but I don't think he can do better than Ryan. They both play in a dome so that helps.
All in all, I wouldn't mind going into battle with any one of those guys in the middle to late rounds.
I think the first three are almost interchangeable. Ryan has the most stud potential, Schaub has the best track record of PPG and has a very soft schedule, and Hasselbeck could easily be the bounceback candidate of the year. I wouldn't mind having any of these guys as a QB1, but Ryan appears to be the safest due to the injury histories of the other two. Hasselbeck has by far the most value of the group based on where he is being taken in drafts. The 4th guy isn't even in the conversation IMO. That guy may perform so poorly that he get benched by mid-year. I'd take him as a QB3 in a start 2 league, but that's about it. Anybody drafting that guy and expecting a big performance, or Dwayne Bowe for that matter, are in for a long season.
Thanks spodog. I'm reading through this thread thinking how is Matt Leinart not included in the discussion. Not that I'm horribly high on him this year, but I would sooner want Leinart than Cassell. I'm with kensat on the likelihood of Cassell being worth anything this year.
As for the question at hand, Id' go like this:
Schaub - Hands down the best of this bunch so far and his only concern is his injury history. Personally, I think he makes it through this year unscathed and will finish in the top 5 QBs by years end.
Ryan - The kid has talent and even though he's only in his second year, rookie QBs don't come out of the gate like he did normally. Combine that with a potent rushing attack and the addition of Gonzo, and I see the speed of the game slowing down for him a little more this year and he will continue to improve. I give the edge to Schaub simply due to Slaton being able to assist whereas Turner isn't going to help with catches out of the backfield and Norwood can only do so much if he's not on the field.
Hass - He may be getting up there in age and he may have been dinged up last year, but I think he has another year or two left in him. And with the addition of TJ, I think his numbers will be serviceable this year.
Leinart - I'm not high on this guy and he's yet to show me anything in the games he has played. But the talent of the WRs in Arizona is enough to put him above Cassell.
