Take Fitzy???

Postby JaysFan » Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:15 pm

I'm drafting 6th in this 12 team 2 qb ppr league. We also start 2 RB but 4 WR (so depth is crucial)

I know qb's are always at a premium, but a part of me is saying maybe I should take Larry Fitzgerald at 6, then with my 2nd rd pick (19) if Rodgers is there (doubtful) I will take him, or McNabb, and since rb is deep this year I could probably steal a guy like Pierre Thomas in the 3rd round. Having Fitzgerald, McNabb (Rodgers just seems too good to be true), and Thomas as my top 3 picks in a 12 team league means I have 3 great players to build around, and all are on great offences.

The other side of it is I take Forte or MJD (whomever is available) OR I take Peyton Manning or Rodgers at 6.

Thoughts?

1.6 is too high a price to pay for Fitz in a league starting 2 QBs. You just have to take best available RB or QB there.

If Brady or Brees is there at 1.6 grab him; otherwise whomever is available of AP, Turner, Forte, or MJD. In my mind, those are the only 6 players you should consider at that spot.

Go into your draft with two plans -- one with taking Brees/Brady, the other with one of the "big four" RBs and decide what you would like to take in each round. Just make sure to allow yourself to be flexible and take the best available talent at each spot, especially if someone unexpected has fallen to you. Good luck! ;-D

But we have to take 4 WR. Also, there is no way Brady and Brees will be there. Should I take a qb at my 2nd pick at 19 if McNabb is available? I think by my 2nd pick Brees, Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Warner, Romo, Rivers, Peterson, MJD, Forte, Turner, Sjax, Chris Johnson, Gore, Fitzy, Moss, Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson will all be taken. If that's the case, should I take McNabb, Ryan, Boldin, Wayne, Jennings?

2 Qb leagues are hard to prep for but being in a couple I know that you can wait to take a WR. There'll be a very good 1 there in the 2nd or 3rd. Your scoring setup would allow me to give better advice. My 2 qb league rewards 5/tds, 0.3ppc (points per completion) and bonus pts @ 295,345, and 395yds. In this case you almost have to go with a QB. Pick 6 is not the best spot to be in because I think Brees might be gone. (depends on your scoring so post them ASAP.) Basic scoring with 4pt tds, i would pass on a 1st round QB and get the best rb available at the 6 slot. $.02

Yes you have to take four WRs, but you need to remember positional scarcity -- i.e. there are only so many starting RBs and QBs available.

IF the draft plays out how you suspect (and it never really does, does it? someone will reach for someone you don't expect... even in "expert" leagues) then I would take McNabb there... I actually have him ranked as my #5 QB.

If one of the big 4 WRs fall to you (and I think one might) I would probably select one there before McNabb. I would also select any of these RBs if they were available: SJax, CJ, or Gore.

For what its worth, I don't think that's too high to take Fitz. He's got more value than a lot of the iffy first round RB's this year. I'd rather have fitz than gore, chris johnson, etc. They have just as many ??? as taking fitz that early does.

Because you start 4 WR's, I can guarantee that you will be surprised at how quickly the quality of WR's drops in even the end of the 3rd round. I think QB is deep this year, with a lot of returning veterans and some up and comers having really good years. Palmer, Hasselbeck, Orton, and Edwards could all be very starter worthy with later round picks.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the draft won't go the way you think it will. What makes a 2QB league draft so weird is that there seems to be so much value throughout the draft because managers will go QB QB like some do with rbs in rounds 1 and 2 and some still won't get a QB until round 6-7. You'll get an idea how things are going when you pick in round 2. I'd try to aim for maybe Romo and Matt Ryan and build depth at WR and RB. Again the SCORING Rules would help us to determine if guys should be grabbing QBs as fast as you think they will.

In my 2 QB league Rodgers, Romo, and Rivers were still there at 19 overall. Most people just aren't that experienced with drafting like that and I assume most of the guys in your league won't be either.

So if Chris Johnson and Calvin Johnson were available which would you take if I have already taken Forte or MJD (still debating which I'd take if both fall to me)??????

I would take Chris over Calvin to pair with MJD/Forte. Your starting RBs are done and you can concentrate on WR/QB.
