New to the forum, first post. Got a nice forum here.
Anyway, I am in a 12 team keeper league. PPR. I can keep up to 5 players, but only 2 per position. The draft is in September. So I have time, I'm jus starting early.
Ok, here's the deal. I know about what to do, jus wanted some outside advice. Here is my roster.
QB - Matt Schaub, Jeff Garcia, Marc Bulger. RB - Thomas Jones, Clinton Portis, Michael Turner, Chester Taylor. WR - Roddy White, Chad Ochocinco, Roy Williams. TE - Owen Daniels, Donte Rosario. DEF - Seattle, Buffalo.
My dillema is this; I'm keeping Turner, Portis, & Roddy White. Those 3 I'm sure of. But who do I keep out of Roy Williams and Chad Ochocinco? I know Chad will get his numbers like always (except last year), but I think Roy Williams could be due for a big year with T.O. gone. I've been going back and forth on this for days, lol. And the more I read about Matt Schaub, the more I consider keeping him, too.
So, the question is.. 1. Roy Williams or Chad Ochocinco? 2. Keep Matt Shaub or listen to who other people dropped at QB and try to grab one? In other words, will Matt Schaub be top 5-10 this year?
First of all, welcome to the Cafe. I hope you enjoy your experience, and that you also contribute to other's questions -- that's what makes this forum great!
You say you can keep up to 5 players (max 2 per position)... what happens if you don't keep your full 5? Do you get compensation?
Your three keepers (Turner, Portis, White) are no-brainers. If I can throw the rest back for compensation (i.e. a first round pick) I would do so. If you HAVE to keep 5 I would add OchoCinco and Schaub (due to your keeper restrictions).
Welcome to the cafe!! Keep 85 over Roy and keep Schaub only if you must keep 5 players. Do you know your draft slot? The champ from 08 gets the 12th pick right? Your slot will influence advice you get on keeping Schaub. If you pick 1-5 I'd throw him back. I like Schaub's skills but he hasn't stayed healthy in a season for a while. I live 10 minutes from Cowboyz stadium and bleed blue and white but I just DON'T trust Roy Williams more than Ocho now that 85 should get more red zone looks with TJ Housh gone replaced by a lesser WR in Coles.
Ok, you don't have to keep 5, you can keep as many as you want UP TO 5.
As far as compensation for keeping less than 5, I'm not sure, this is my first year in this local league. I jus asked the commish, waiting for a response.
Does that change anything? My main thing is Roy or Chad, and is Matt worth it?
Edit: Wow, not even sure of my draft slot. Let's say I'm 6th because, I don't think the guy I'm replacing did well last year (I'm taking over his team now).
If you are compensated for keeping less than 5, I would keep Turner, Portis, White and Ocho Cinco. If you are not then the 5 I would keep are: Turner, Porits, White, Ocho and Schaub.

You're basically asking if Matt Schaub is worth a 5th round pick. Based on his history I would say no but you really need to get a better idea of who/how many players the other managers will be keeping before I can say for sure if Schaub should be kept. (The scoring rules for the league could be useful too.) Roy will face some stiff comp with Witten, Crayton, and Miles. Ocho has to worry about Coles and Henry but he'll get more red zone looks this year than he ever did imo.
Well, I'd keep OchoCinco over Roy more because I really don't think Roy will do much of anything this year moreso than liking Chad this season. Chad has always been wildly inconsistent from week to week which is not something I personally like dealing with but being a WR2 for you could be a positive thing as he could single handedly win you some games even if he doesn't perform well week to week.
I wouldn't keep Schaub though...he's really a borderline top 10 QB right now and that's not worth anything above a pick in the 8-9th rounds of drafts which means that being kept as a 5th keeper is really out of the question. I'd throw him back and use that extra spot to draft someone at RB/WR who will help you more this year, I'd concentrate on RB first but if there's a good WR available it wouldn't be a bad choice either.
