Question about my drafting strategy

I am a TD league with 11 teams and my strategy over the past several years has been to draft a QB or a WR in the first round. I won the league one year and I have finished in the top 4 a majority of the time. My thinking is that their is a bigger point deferential amongst the top WR and QB then with RB. Drew Brees and Andre Johnson score alot more points in my TD league than the second tier at these positions. The onslaugh of running back by committee has aided this as well. Now maybe I am just a little more adept at identifying running back talent. I drafted Matt Forte in the fifth round last year. My thinking is that every year there are surprise running backs and they get hurt so often I would rather take my chances with the second tier guys at this position. Plus defenses are keying on the first tier running backs like never before. LT and Larry Johnson would be a good sign of this. I would rather have a surprise guy at this position. My question is do second tier running backs consistently outscore second tier QB and WR's. I know that scoring is shifted towards running backs but as a ballpark statement would this be true? Scoring my league is a straight TD league. Very little scoring for anything else.

it really shouldn't change your strategy too much as far as drafting goes. but in the end it is always about what you are most comfortable with and it sounds like you have done pretty well for yourself in the middle rounds with picking rb's so stick to that since it has worked. personally i have done well with later round wr's but everyone is different.

ive always picked Rbs early, Wrs middle and Qbs late, and thats traditionally the best route from my experience. im thinking of changing my strategy this year though, because in a few mock drafts ive been able to get top WRs early and still get about 4 quality Rbs with upside much later in the draft-Pierre thomas, Wells, Knowshon, Bush, and even late guys like Ward and Benson have some potential. The WR pool dries up by about rounds 4-5 and if you dont have them set, you're forced to take guys like Berrian and Breaston as your #3WR. As for Qbs i think waiting till middle rounds for guys like Rodgers, romo, rivers, Warner is better than jumping early on peyton,Brady, and Brees. Even late guys like Quinn, Edwards, hasselback could have some potential to be this year's Rodgers. The dropoff is not much (if any) and it frees up your early pick to take Rb or WR instead.

I think you definitely want 1 WR in your top 2 rounds this year, and you can wait on the Qb until the middle.

I'm in a keeper league and kept LT. But in the next 2 rounds I managed to steal randy moss and calvin johnson. Definitely agree with you strategy and the logic behind it. Help with mine if you got time. just click my name and on the add/drop question. Thanks and Good Luck!!
