Portis or Manning?

I'm in a 10-team standard ESPN scoring league. I have the 2nd overall pick. I've been doing mock drafts and have seen Portis and Manning on the board while it was my turn to pick in the 2nd round. Can I go wrong with choosing one over the other? With Portis I'll most likely go RB-RB-WR-WR-QB. With Manning I'll most likely go RB-QB-WR(Reggie Wayne)-RB-WR.

I'm stuck on if I should go with the 3rd ranked QB or the 12th ranked RB?

With standard scoring with QBs getting 4/tds, I'd take Portis.

Portis might not make it to you but if he does take him. Not much has changed since last year. If he stays healthy you will be smiling like the butchers dog.

If you are forced to take Manning stay away from Wayne. What you do is make your season a make or break determined by a few players. Diversify. Wayne has a year like last year and you are dead in the water because you put all your eggs in one basket.

I never go into a draft with "RB-RB-WR-WR-QB" or whatever in mind. Every draft is different and you really have to go with the flow. I really only have 2 pretty solid draft rules. One is that I'll almost always take a RB in the 1st round. Then I just take it from there. The second is that I'll almost never take a QB early. You can almost always get very good QB much later in the draft. The same can't be said for RB's & WR's. So in your case, if Portis & Manning are available in the 2nd, I'd easily go with Portis. If all the RB's that you really like as a #2 (assuming you pick a RB in the 1st) are gone by the time you're up in the 2nd, I'd go with a top WR over Manning. I hope that helps a little. Good luck!

Agreed...if you're lucky enough to get a back like Clinton Portis at the end of the 2nd round, you HAVE to take him. I would take him in the early 2nd much less late 2nd and I wouldn't touch Manning (even if I would draft him in the early rounds) until the 3rd round at the very earliest. Portis is definitely the choice here should he be available.
