Please Help with my keeper league

Postby wsands3 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:20 pm

THis is the second year of my keeper league and it is a -2 keeper league. (meaning a player drafted 5th the year before costs you a 3rd round pick to keep the following year) an additional rule to the league is that if a team keeps and 2 of his top three players he must forfeit his top three drafts picks.

Standard scoring non PPR league.

below is my team and what it costs to keep said player. I am set on keeping MJD with a 1st rd pick and Matt Forte with a 5th rd pick.

Now should i also keep Brees and give up my top three picks (see rule above) or instead keep donnie avery with a 13th rd pick and retain my second and third round picks. the way things look i would have the 6th pick overall in the draft with my (2nd round pick)....im not sure if Brees would be worth losing those picks over. please give me your thoughts WHIR.

Drew Brees 2nd round
Marion Barber 1st round
Maurice Jones Drew 3rd round
Matt Forte 7th round
Ted Ginn Jr. 12th round
Terrell Owens 2nd round
Dallas Clark 6th round
Josh Brown 10th round
Patriots DST 10th round
Brady Quinn FA
Mewelde Moore FA
Donnie Avery FA
Santonio Holmes 4th round
Roy Williams 5th round
Dustin Keller FA

First off, keeping MJD and Forte are no-brainers... you got that part right. ;-D

If I understand your league rules correctly, that's a pretty steep price to pay for keeping Brees as well. You would only have 1 pick in the first 5 rounds (round 4), correct? Next pick is in round 6?

Let's assume you don't keep Brees. You would select 6th overall (your 2nd round pick) and take best available player... probably a WR/QB or a RB if you are getting great value. You then get your 3rd round pick, probably in the 10-13 overall range, right? You take another WR/QB. Then BAP with your 4th round pick.

As I don't know who else is being kept throughout your league, you have to evaluate this, but I can't see where the 2nd scenario (i.e. the one that throws back Brees) doesn't end up being the stronger team at the end of the draft. Plus, you get Avery for a 13th round pick... excellent value for a high-upside WR4/WR5.

Good luck! ;-D

Need scoring settings and a little clarity on what would happen if you kept Brees, Forte, and MJD. If you lose picks in rounds 1-5 then DON'T keep Brees unless QBs get at least 0.5 pts for completions and pass tds are 5-6pts each. You also need to mention how many teams are in your league unless i missed that.

Thanks for your insight.

Is the draft round after their name what pick round you would lose, or do you need to subtract two from each of those listed rounds. I am assuming its the latter because you said you would lose your 1st pick for MJD.

While I would want more information, I am going to say that MJD is a slam. Nothing is wrong with protecting Forte earlier. Avoiding TO and Barber I think are smart. I do not believe the Brees is worth a second, third and fourth round pick! You could get a decent QB even in round 2 and still get two darn fine players in 3 & 4.

That being said, I would consider keeping Keller over Avery if you are looking at only losing your 13th pick. I think his upside is greater than that of Avery's.
