Sometimes I wonder if Jim Croce mistook LeRoy Brown for Brandon Jacobs.
The Giants running back does indeed, "Stand about 6-foot-4." He weighs 264 pounds. He's also coming off a second-straight 1,000 season, one that included 15 TDs. That makes him badder than Old King Kong and meaner than a junkyard dog in standard leagues.
Jacobs finally is getting his fantasy due; he was selected with the No. 5 pick in our first experts mock draft. Despite the fact Jacobs missed eight games over the past two seasons, owners who handcuff Jacobs with Ahmad Bradshaw won't be disappointed.
The rest of the offense, however, is a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone. It all went downhill last season after Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg. Burress and Amani Toomer are gone, and Manning is working with a grab-bag of unproven receivers. It's unclear which one (or two?) will step up as fantasy options. Owners will over-draft rookie Hakeem Nicks and under-draft Domenik Hixon and Steve Smith.
The defense returns Osi Umenyiora, who missed all of last season with a knee injury. Although the Giants will be breaking in a new coordinator, not much will change from this blue-collar unit -- or the team as a whole, for that matter. The Giants are 41-23 with four playoff appearances in the past four years, including a Super Bowl win against the only 18-0 team in NFL history.
Does that mean Tom Coughlin is, in fact, the baddest man in the whole damned town?
