Steven Jackson, really a top 5 pick?

Great Eagles minds think alike, I guess. I know alot of you saw me proclaim the same thing going into last year:
Why You Shouldn't Draft Steven Jackson
And while I know Bagel followed my subsequent thread:

Steven Jackson: Beast or Bust, I'm not sure he saw all of the results at the end:
SJAX finished the fantasy season with 3 BEAST weeks all year. Here's the breakdown:

Image

The bottom line is that SJAX was a BUST last year more often than he was useful in both PPR and non-PPR. He was 18th in my non-PPR league last year, so I'm not sure where Bagel got 3rd in PPG.

As for the Rams turning it around, I don't expect it. Just because other teams can do it in this day and age (MIA), does not mean that the Rams will. They are the current version of DET/OAK/CIN/take your pick. They still have Bulger pitching who will stink this year, Holt is gone, and a rookie OL stud is still a rookie. I don't see this team competing and I don't see the offense thriving. I am passing on SJAX.

You guys all make good points, and I'm all for picking him late in the 1st, but not at 1.05. The guy has not been top 5 in PPG or total fantasy points since 2006 (taking away Wk 17), and along with what I posted above, I think there are better options with 1.05 then Steven Jackson.

You're all assuming that you start him on his highs and bench him on his lows. Well the last 2 years there were a few times when I've benched him when I shouldn't have and played him when I should have not. Those games can make a difference in making the FF playoffs.

With the 2009 Rams...well..I'll take a PASS on SJAX in any draft!!

I had the 8th pick out of 10 teams but I entered the draft right after my turn so yahoo auto-picked LT over SJax who was still available for me.

Im not sure if thats good or bad cuz I am reading positive news on LT but I keep thinking to myself that I would have picked SJax over LT so what are your thoughts?

LT or SJax and why??

Great post very few realize when he plays he is top dog in PPG. PPR I think he is a lock for top 7. He is the only RB in that system. No RBBC. That's a big deal now days. IF healthy he should be top 7RB. If hurt he can still put up top 12 numbers.

I did not read all the post but They did upgrade that O-line with a top Rookie and free agents.

Mid to late 1st round RB, lock! PPR ..upgrade him. Would you really want CJ who gives up 800 yrds10+ TD over him? Gore sucked last year too but I think its his bounce back year. Addai sucked too and we all are writing him off. My point is just like LT...they all have up's and downs. Sjax has been great PPG...I think he is top 10RB as high as 6th with LT/CJ/D.Williams. He will not lose 800+ 10TD ...to Steward/White type players. Added value in that fact?

Drafting in the 1st round is difficult for me this year I have not decided on a set ranking. Can you share with me your rankings or tell me who the better options are that you should take before SJax. I am so confused on RBs this year I really need some RB ranking help.

I don't think you can include the Week 17 argument as a reason not to draft Jackson. Its more a statistical anomaly and doesn't in any way mean that it will happen again. If there is a reason behind it (like a QB or WR consistently not performing late in the year due to bad weather conditions) then it might be understandable.

That said I am not saying that I think Jackson is a top-5 pick this year and really liked the rest of the writeup and such. I think Jackson is a guy to target anywhere from pick 1.05 to 1.10 along with LT, Gore, and others. He's got injury risk and there's always the risk that STL passing game is so poor that it hurts him, but if he stays healthy he should be decent RB1 with upside to be elite.

Foot injury to cost Rams WR Avery 4-6 weeks, his status for Weeks 1-3 is in jeopardy.
Is this good or bad for SJAX?

Bad.

There will be 11 guys on defense focused on SJax.
