My 2nd & 3rd for his 1st & 4th? WHIR

Postby vykeengfan » Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:09 pm

10 team keeper, keep 3 + a 4th rookie. Basically I was offered the #3 and #38 picks for my #16 and #25.
I was planning on shooting for knowshawn w/ my #5, but now I could take him #3(assuming he's still there), use him as my rookie keeper for the next few years, and then take bpa @ 5. I won't get another pick til 36, but I think the talent I can get at #5 would offset that.
I'm seeing things clearly, right? I think it's a no-brainer, but something else tells me I'm missing something. BTW, this is my first keeper league; I'm taking over for another owner...
Any input is highly appreciated and I WHIR!!!

*EDIT*
The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking that it's not such a no-brainer. 30 picks are gone due to keepers(4th/rookie keeper doesn't apply until next yr). So in essence, I'd be getting the #33 and #68 picks, while giving up #46 and #55. So the question becomes Is the value that I can get from a 4th and 7th round pick better than a 5th and 6th?

this is pretty close, but i would do it, and here's why:

moving up to #3 overall will guarantee that you should be able to pick up wells, moreno, or brown, and then stash them for years to come. they could all theoretically be off the board by #5, and with the rookie keeper format, plus the top 30 players gone, it's a possibility. the 6th vs. 7th round differential isn't as significant with a lot of top talent off of the board, you'll be looking at slow and steady vets or high upside risks either way.

in keeper leagues i always love getting higher picks so i say do it. the talent at 3 is way better related to 16 than the talent difference between 25 and 38

This is a good deal for you, the quality at 3 and 5 will make up for the loss of your 2nd and 3rd picks. There is good talent with so few keepers. Good Deal! ;-D

A tool I use as well. Remember, you need to add 30 to all your numbers to compensate for your 3 keepers. Doing that offers your team a 3% advantage... plus I like the 1.3 pick like others have mentioned. Do it!
