Let me start this by stating that i am in fact relatively new to fantasy football, this is actually the the first year of me playing. Though being a huge football fan for the last twenty years (im 27) i have read and understood fantasy football as well as one can without actually playing fantasy.
Now, recently i had my live 8 team draft and was able to obtain Peyton Manning in the 3rd, Reggie wayne in the 6th and Dallas Clark in the 8th. I had the 7th pick and feel i got good value on Manning and great value on Clark. Now; the question arises because i was told during the intermission of the draft after i took Clark that i had severly screwed the pooch. I had not split up my players well enough and would in fact limit myself weekly because if wayne has a huge week than clark wouldnt, and this does make sense untill numbers are looked at.
Clark has more redzone catches in the last two years than any other wr/te. While wayne primarily moves the chaines but also gets deep into the secondary. Looking at the numbers for Wayne and Clark have both had concurrent games with high statistical ratings in the past three years. The Colts use both of them effectively and build their stats even when they have a large base of running in their game plan.
My plan is this; since the league only had 8 members i was also able to get. Terrell Owens, Greg Jennings, Lee Evans, and am going to add Dustin Keller as soon as the league is intiated. I do not intend on starting all three colts everyweek it will be more dependant on matchup since it is true to some fashion that both wayne and clark cant allways have good games together. Looking at past defense statistics from last year and the year before the colts have relatively easy pass defense opposition in weeks 2,3,4,15,16,17. If i manage to make the playoffs the Colts offense could potentially push me over the edge since they put up serious numbers when the oppurtunity exsits. As said they wont allways start. Example Wayne probabley wont start week 12 against Tenn since its a terrible matchup' and Jennings, TO, and Evans have nice matchups against DET and MIA respectfully.
I am not certain if this strategy is completely ludacris but i did my first eight weeks rough scouting reports today and it appears as if this strategy may actually work. It just takes more manipulation and scouting.
Sorry about the length, but i think this may be an interesting topic overall. Whether the risk of a Manning/wayne; Shaub/Johnson; Brady/Moss is worth the potential reward.
On a side note i was offered a trade the day of the draft, straight up TO for Steve Smith (Car). I am probabley going to make the deal; but i feel like 2 is going to have a big year in Buffalo. Looking at past numbers his first year in a new city is huge, hes playing for a contract, and the age may not affect him as much since hes a workout freak. Yet the reality shows and such really concern me that the focus isnt there. What do you think of the trade.
i think QB connections are fine when the players involved are all studs. you get into trouble when you draft high risk players at both positions. i dont think theres anything wrong with owning peyton/reggie/clark, just like there's nothing wrong with owning brady/moss. i think 7th overall for peyton is a bit high, and probably would have taken a stud RB, especially since you would be picking again @10 and i'm guessing he would still be there.
some notes on your post: 1) i would be careful about basing too much of your strategy on last year's statistics and this year's schedule. teams will surprise and fail every year, and it can really throw off expectations. 2) start reggie against tennessee. no way i'm sitting him over evans. be wary of WRs facing "weak" defenses, esp. when they have a good running games (IE buffalo) because often teams will just pound the ball with the lead, and you'll have very few looks for the receivers. the tenn game should be close, and peyton is going to have to throw to beat them. 3) i'd flip TO for steve smith right now, no questions.
I concur.....I also like connections if the players are studs......or where the wr is your part time 3rd WR...play the matchups.......a guy in our league got crap last year drafting Warner, Fitz, and Boldin......worked out pretty good for him......
Well in 8 team leagues there is generally enough talent that you can have quality backup players at each position, or potentially make a trade for someone else. There are a few reasons why I don't like to start that many players from one team. First is the bye week, then you have 3 starters you need to have bye week fill ins for. Second what if, in your case, Indy has a tight low scoring game and there rb's score there only td's for them, then you are hurting at three different positions. Third they can always get shout down or out which again hurts you at three positions. Now we know that Indy has a top notch offense and they very rarely are shut down our out, but the old saying, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Good luck.

good luck, and welcome to fantasy football
He got manning in the 3rd round which is good value for him I think. You shouldn't be worried about owning 3 players on a prolific offense. I think Clark was decent value at your pick, maybe you got caught up in a TE run, but you proably could have waited on that postion.
