Complete NFL noob's first draft

Postby doof » Tue Aug 04, 2009 1:55 pm

Hi all,

Any pointers for a complete noob would be much appreciated. Standard 10 team H2H league.

Starters
Jay Cutler (Chi - QB)
Greg Jennings (GB - WR)
Dwayne Bowe (KC - WR)
Chad Ochocinco (Cin - WR)
Matt Forte (Chi - RB)
Steve Slaton (Hou - RB)
Dallas Clark (Ind - TE)
Josh Brown (StL - K)
Houston (Hou - DEF)

Bench
Joseph Addai (Ind - RB)
Donald Brown (Ind - RB)
Michael Crabtree (SF - WR)
Earl Bennett (Chi - WR)
Chad Pennington (Mia - QB)
Jared Cook (Ten - TE)

I did a fair bit of reading and tried to follow the rules (RB,RB,WR). However, as I have found from years of NHL play, the top of the draft should not be that hard. The middle and end is where you can win a league. Any thoughts on my overall structure of positions? I assume my bench players won't see much playing time, so they are effectively backups - correct? Any of these guys obviously out of place in a ten teamer?

Would help in return if I knew anything at all about NFL, but I just moved to the US from Australia.

Thanks

Overall it looks pretty solid IMO. Getting Forte and Slaton should be huge for you. Dwayne Bowe could be a little overrated this year and Chad is inconsistent so it just depends on how lucky you get. I would probably change kickers and DEF in favor of a team that scores more points for your kicker and either play matchups with the D or just pick a good one off WW....

Help with mine please

Welcome to the Cafe ;-D
Not bad at all. Your WRs are solid, hopefully OchoCinco can keep his head straight this year and perform like he did a few years ago. Having Forte and Slaton as a one - two punch at your RB spot is always going to help.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

Drop Donald Brown in favor of Ray Rice who has a lot of upside with little competition at his position. I also like Tony Scheffler instead of Jared Cook.

It's a travesty that Moreno wasn't drafted by anyone. Pick him up asap. Ray Rice should also be solid this year.
You don't need to keep 2 TEs, so you can just drop Cook for another player. You'll be starting Dallas Clark every week anyway, and just pick up a TE for his 1 bye week.

I wouldn't worry too much about your K. Rackers, Hartley, Folk should all be good.
