when are you grabbing qb/te?

Postby kickureface » Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:05 am

are you wasting an early pick on a top tier qb/te if you have the chance? what if in rouind 2/3 people start drafting qb, brees is gone and brady/manning fall in your lap, do you take it? and if someone takes witten right before you, do you snag gates with the pick right after or gonzo?

or do you think the best idea is to coast a few rounds and grab a middle tier qb or te, or just ignore it completely until the end and grab the best possible TE available or whoever booms during the season (sure this wont work for QB)

I am in a 12 teamer with the 12th pick this year. Im taking rb/wr talent rounds 1-4. Taking my qb @ 5-6 so i dont get shut out of the rock solid starters since I have to wait so long until my next pick. If guys like Cutler, Shuab ect... are gone by my sixth pick, then I wait even longer. Same for TE, usually grabbing a solid one in rounds 7/8, but again, if Cooley/Olsen are taken, it pays to wait longer. Look at the actual differnce in points per game amongst the top guys and those ranked in the next tier or 2 down.

I like platooning QBs, so I normally wait to grab two QBs in the 8-12 rounds. I wait until about then to draft a TE, unless one of the absolute studs lasts longer than they should and is a steal. I like stocking up on as much RB and WR talent as I can in the first half of the draft.

what do you do with all the talent at rb/wr if they are on ur bench, other than matchups?

looks like the cafe answer is grab them late!

When I draft I use a cheat sheet. I believe in taking the best player available, but there are many draft strategies. I also think it is best to draft the weekend before the season starts. As we are already seeing injuries to starters, which effect fantasy values.

I find ESPN a place to start http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tools/projections?

The cafe is an asset especially good for rankings, sleepers, upgrading rosters, bench/start etc.. Some very on the ball and knowledgeable people in here.

www.MrFantasy.com is pretty good for weekly rankings/bench start

I think there was a list of resources the cafe used to have, one of the moderators or cafe veterans can weigh in better. I hope this helps.

I know 2 of the 10 teams in my league eagerly waiting to take Brees and Brady in rounds 2 & 3, and I'm sure there are several teams quietly waiting inthe wings to see if they are there. I will wait till at least round 5 and then if I can't grab one of the next top 3 will be waiting till probably rounds 7-9 and go for QB.

I just did one of my drafts and let me tell you...

Brady almost fell in my lap to rd 4 but was taken right before my pick, I opted for Rivers instead

Olsen fell till the 8 or 9 round? I gobbled him up!!

Matt Ryan fell deep into my draft again I was gonna take him but he was taken two picks before me so I took Cutler.

IMO sleepers who fell..... Carson Palmer, Bernard Berrian, Knoshown Moreno
