Boldin and a 2nd round pick for Andre Johnson? WHIR

Postby Algierine » Thu Aug 06, 2009 9:28 am

12-team, h2h keeper league and we draft this weekend. We keep 1 QB, 1RB, 1 WR and up until this morning, I was content to head into the draft with the following as my keepers:

Matt Ryan
Chris Johnson
Anquan Boldin

In speaking to the Andre Johnson owner this morning, who traded his 2nd round pick already, he indicated that he would consider dealing Johnson for Boldin and my 2nd. Of course, I have to consider it, right?

Here's the rub...I've already dealt my 3rd and 4th round picks in deals that netted me Ryan and Chris Johnson, so my draft line-up looks like so:

1 (9th overall pick in each round)
2
5
5
6
7
8
9
10

So, if I make the deal I'd have three very good keepers, a 1st round pick, and then nothing until the 5th round.

So, I ask you, is the upgrade from Johnson for Boldin worth it? What say you? Will answer yours.

If I could sway him to throw in a 4th round pick, do you think that would lessen the blow?

Getting the 4th would give you 1,4, 4, 5 picks with Ryan, Johnson, and CJ.

Compare that with Ryan, Boldin, and CJ, which is solid.
Consider the depth you get with a 1st and 2nd rounder and 2 5ths, versus a 1st, 4th, and 2 5ths.
There is a drop off from AJ to Boldin, but I don't think it outweighs what you can get in the 1st and 2nd.
If i knew the who is in the draft pool and your pick numbers I could go mor e in depth, but just look at the before and after and what kind of scoring you will get in each scenario, then decide which one makes you better.

I would pass. Although Andre is great, Boldin if he can stay healthy will not be that far behind.

Like others have said, it hurts your possibility of maximum depth at RB and WR. Yes, there is a drop off from Andre to Boldin, but the drop off isn't going to be that big. I would sit still and keep your extra draft picks.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

Hmmm...good points. Thanks! How about the receivers and a swap of my 2nd and his 3rd?

Here's what we've been tossing around:

I give:
Anquan Boldin (ARI)
Draft Pick - Round 2 Pick 10 Overall 22
Draft Pick - Round 5 Pick 12 Overall 60

I get:
Andre Johnson (HOU)
Draft Pick - Round 3 Pick 11 Overall 35
Draft Pick - Round 7 Pick 11 Overall 83

Thoughts?

Still not worth it. The difference in points between Boldin and AJ isn't going to that big.
