How should I draft

Postby TG Baraka » Thu Aug 06, 2009 7:24 pm

My league is a little bit different than most standard type leagues. It is a 12 team league where we start 1 qb 3rbs 2wrs and 1WR/TE and then a kicker and defense. Being that so many rbs are being played it puts a premium on good rbs. However, the scoring system screws with that a little. QBs 50 yards a point 6pt tds with -1 for ints 300-yard games +3 points, RBs/WRs 20yards a point 6pt tds 100 yard games +3 200 yard games +5. So, Qbs are stronger too with the tds counting as 6. I have the 9th pick what do you guys feel is the most important position for me to fill early (not necessarily first pick). What positions should I have filled with my first 3 - 4 picks?
I'm thinking of drafting 2 RBs early right now. Should I even look at an elite WR in my position? I think Fitzgerald will be there at 9 and someone else will be there at 16(2nd round) maybe calvin johnson or Andre Johnson. QB? Brees should be there at 9, but at 16 I don't think Brees will be there maybe Brady, but most likely it'll just be Manning at 16. Should I look at a QB early?

With the 9th pick, I'd go RB/RB or RB/WR if one of the top WRs are available. Within the first four rounds, I normally have 2 RBs and 2 WRs or 3 RBs and 1 WR.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

This scoring system surely puts lots of premium on TD scoring players...ie Studs or teams with Great offences.

Given QBs get high TD value but not much for yards means that either u take top 3 or can easily go deep for QB needs.

RBs get high value bcos they can be more consistent in getting yards and to 100yd point.

I wud go RB/WR for 1st 4 rounds. Best available...and ones that are in good offences or good offensive lines....namely Fitz, Moss, B Jacobs, Jennings, Colston etc...then a QB such as Schaub, Ryan, Cutler will also be ok.

Get good backup RBs too...it can b a year for the backups/rookies again.

all the best....do post the team u drafted !!

Sounds like a crazy league! With the fact that you have to start 3 RB, that puts even more of a premium on RB's. It doesn't matter what your QB scoring is, I wouldn't touch a QB until round 5 - 8. I would try to grab 2 stud RBs with your first 2 picks and then grab a RB or WR in rounds 3, 4, and 5 depending on who is available in each round and where the better value is. I would try to leave round 5 with 3 RBs and 2 WRs. Depending on who is available in round 5, I would take the best player available at the RB, WR, or QB position. Grab RBs while everyone is grabbing a QB in the first few rounds! Target McNabb, Romo, Ryan, Schaub, Palmer, Hasselbeck, Cutler, etc later in the draft! ;-D
