Keeper Trade Advice - WHIR

Postby Sports4lyf » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:42 pm

I'm in a 10-team ESPN league, standard starters (2 rb, 2 wr, 1 rb/wr flex) with standard scoring (no PPR). I used a lot of my depth to upgrade at RB, and my team (4 keepers) is now: Jones-Drew, Michael Turner, Steven Jackson, Marshawn Lynch.

I currently have the 3rd, 6th, and 12th picks so I will be able to grab some WR's early on. I have a few options and wanted some other opinions. "Team 1" has Portis, Jennings, Calvin Johnson, and Boldin (and the 8th overall pick). "Team 2" has Gore, Fitz, Steve Smith, Roddy. "Team 3" has Slaton, Wayne, and the 4th overall pick in the draft.

There are surprisingly some good RB options available (Barber, Ronnie, and obviously Moreno). The early WR's available are Braylon, Welker, Ochocinco, Housh, S. Holmes, S. Moss, etc.

I am intrigued by offering SJax/Lynch for Slaton/Wayne/4th pick. I know Slaton would be a downgrade, but I think that not worrying about the injury issues may be worth the downgrade. If this trade was accepted, I would have the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 12th overall picks. I know I would be able to grab a very solid RB (mentioned earlier) and grab several other wideouts. While I wouldn't be able to start those RB's (except on bye weeks), I would at least have some firepower to offer for a WR upgrade.

The other main option I am considering is with team 1. His only RB is Portis, who is on the decline, so I'm figuring he will be more willing to part with a WR. I could either do a Lynch for Jennings/Boldin deal, or even try a SJax/Lynch deal for Calvin + Jennings/Boldin. If I did that though, my RB3 would become whoever I draft early on.

I'm trying to find the balance between adding solid WR's and maintaining solid keepers. Potentially having (1) MJD, Turner, Slaton, Wayne or (2) MJD, Turner, Calvin, Jennings would both be very good teams. I know this post is long, but it requires more thought than normal trade suggestions.

Thanks in advance, and post a link and I WHIR!

I've never done a Keeper League, but in reviewing the options, I like your thoughts along the latter. Not sure, however, if you can trade Lynch (since he is on suspension early on), but if so, I would try for a SJax/Lynch - Jennings/Boldin deal if possible. Then your team would look like:

MJD, Turner, Jennings, Boldin

Nice & solid.

Good luck!!!

I would surely suggest upgrading the WR corps before the draft as not really stud WRs are available.

U have excellent RBs infact 3 in top 6 rankings. So ppl will be drooling and scared both....and wud like to get 1 of these 3.

Your thots are right on. If u can get 2 studly WRs or 1R/1WR for your Sjax and Lynch then u wud be even better positioned than now.

With your 3rd pick u can still grab a top QB and also some other value pieces with later picks.

Your initial target - Team 1 - Calvin and Jennings...if it gets rejected u can try Calvin n boldin n so on. Quote about Portis' reliability in the proposal as your selling point.

Back up plan - Team 2 - Fitz n Roddy ...though not very likely...so S Smith and Roddy for SJax n Lynch. Though team 2 might be bit tougher to trade with.

Last Option - Slaton, Wayne, 4th Pick.

All the best. Keep us posted.

Bump.

Any other thoughts? This would be a big trade so I'd like as much input as possible! :) WHIR
