WHIR Please rate my team WHIR

Postby dapound » Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:09 am

Just got done drafting in a espn live auction draft. It was my 1st time. I must say it was very enjoyable.

It was 10 team league where everyone started with $200.00

Standard scoring except passing tds only 4 points.

I picked 9th ( not that it made a difference )

QB Drew Brees- I bid on him to drive the price up and ended up getting him for market value.
RB Adrian Peterson- I got him for market value as well. The next 5 picks were more expensive than A.P.
RB Reggie Bush- I got him for 3 dollars under MV

WR Steve Smith (car) I paid $1 over MV
WR Braylon Edwards $3 under MV
RBWR Santonio Holmes Under MV
TE Brent Celek $1
D/ST Steelers $2 over

K Ryan Longwell $1

Bench

RB Darrin Sproles $2
RB Felix Jones $1
RB Donald Brown $2
RB Chester Taylor $1

WR Anthony Gonzales $2
WR Lance Moore $2

QB Matt Hasselbeck $1

Any thoughts or suggestions about this team?

I think I will do another one of these. It was much more fun than a standard draft. I had $20 dollars left with 9 slots to fill. I had 7 bucks left when completed. One guy had $22 left over.

Please leave a link I will help promptly. Thanks in advance.
Here is a cool game I found.

Auction leagues are not my specialty but I can give you some general comments.

I love the AP led group of RBs. I am a huge fan of upside and you picked a group with tons of it. You got your sure thing in AP, one of the others will light it up.

The WRs are rock solid too. I wouldn't change either group.

Add the best QB in the league and this is a team that I would roll with.

Celek isn't really a TE guarantee but again, there is upside there so see what happens. Be ready on the waiver wire though or even be prepared to trade because you have tons of WR depth.

I am not an auction drafter either, but your team looks pretty solid.

My only criticism is that you should have another solid RB to fill your flex spot, rather than another WR3. You have solid backups but personally, I would like another starting RB... but that's just my general strategy.

Thanks for you help on mine

I have never done an auction draft so I can't critique it nearly as well either. But I do like the balance of your team. AP is always a great pick and your depth is very deep. Celek should have a breakout year. Nicely done!

Thanks for helping mine.

For future reference, it would be a good idea to post the prices that you paid for the players rather than giving the difference between the price you paid and the market value. This means that we can see what proportion of your salary cap you used on which players and positions.

Without seeing the price you paid I can't say whether you used you cap wisely but I can give you my opinion on your team as a whole. I think you're set a QB with Brees and Hass even if Brees won't repeat last season's numbers. Having AD at RB is a great addition but I'm not sold on Bush being your RB 2 and your back ups are not proven guys who can step in. Smith is a top WR but I don't know how his recent injury will affect him. Holmes is a solid WR 3 but I don't know how Edwards will play this year and having him as your WR 2 is definitely risky. Celek is a sleeper but I would try and get a back up TE in case he doesn't pan out. Kicker nad D is solid although I wouldn't have paid more than $2 for a defense.

Mmm...sorry I've never participated in a auction draft as well so I'm a little unsure of how the rules go. If you're starting Brees, ADP and Steve Smith then you have a highly competitive team..even in a 10 man league format. How many RB's are you starting in this league? If two than ADP and Bush isn't a bad combo. The bench is a little on the weak side...I always look for another starter for the bench...even if it's someone who isn't dazzling. You're looking for touches on your bench. Brown is said to be in a RBBC situation wich is a good thing for you...Felix is dazzling and Sproles and Chester are decent backups. I would look to beef this up a bit.

WR: Smith is a stud...don't worry about the injury I think he'll be fine. Holmes is a good WR3 option..would love to see him finally break a 1000 yards this season. Braylon Edwards...complete mystery. No one knows what's going on in camp with him..he's gone completely mental with his hands...honestly. He needs a new change of scenery before he's productive again. He's a lottery pick for ya this year. But on the bright side he's the #1 and will certainly get the looks. Moore and Gonzo are great bench player.

good luck ;-D
