12-Man Draft help (passTDs=6pts) WHIR!!!

Postby fpliii » Fri Aug 14, 2009 11:59 pm

Hey all,

My normal league decided to change a few things around this year. First of all, it expanded from 10 to 12 teams. Secondly, passing TD's are worth as many points as rushing, receiving TD's. It's not PPR, but there are three WR's and 2 RB's without a flex.

Any tips on how I should draft the first 7 rounds? How different will the first 3 rounds look than in a typical 10-man, 2rb/2wr/flex league with standard qb scoring?

The draft is Sunday. Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice! WHIR!!!!!

WRs are valued more highly than if you only had 2 to start, but the bulk of your fantasy points are still going to come from the RB position. You'll find that RBs are going to go faster now that your league has expanded to 12 teams, so make sure to nab one early. Surprisingly, QBs do not rise in value when TDs go to 6 pts. The only time that QBs rise in value is if your league makes it a start-2 QB format, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. As when drafting in any league, don't be rigid in what to take in the top rounds. Remaining flexible and taking the best value available is always best. Don't force yourself to go RB-RB or RB-WR just because you went into the draft thinking that you would. Just stay calm and stay true to your cheat sheets, and all should turn out well.

Help out (it's a nice and short one :-D ):

Thanks for the response! I have a couple more questions:

Is it essential to have a top 6 WR (Calvin, Andre, Fitz, Moss, Roddy, Smith) in this format?

Is drafting a QB in round 1 or 2 a viable strategy? Last year I had the 10th and 11th picks and went Gore-Brady, and the latter pretty much wrecked my season. Brees, maybe?

Since there isn't a flex, what kind of guy do I want to start at number 2 RB? What's the latest I can make this move?

How late can I expect Cutler/Olsen to fall? I thought they would amount to trendy late draft picks this year, but this might not be the case.

Lastly, any general strategy if I get an early, mid, or late round pick? For the first 3 rounds, that is.
