so im in a 14 team h2h Keeper league (keep 7 year to year)...non-ppr...
we are just starting our offline draft...
all stats a standard aside from 4Pts for pass TD, INTs=-2PTs and 25 return yards per point

start: QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R, W/T, K, DEF, D, D, DB, DB, DL, DL

my roster so far is:
QB-Romo
WR-T.O.
WR-Lee Evans
RB-MJD
RB-Joseph Addai
TE-Jason Witten
W/R-
W/T-
BN-Shonn Greene
K-
DEF-
D-Jon Beason (was my 7th best keeper)
D-
DB-
DB-
DL-
DL-

so this guy in my league had come to me several times wanting MJD, but he only has Jamal Lewis, Thomas Jones, Willie Parker and LeRon McClain as backs so he just came at me with this deal:

I Give:MJD
I Get:Reggie Wayne, Chad Ochocinco and Jamal Lewis or Thomas Jones

am i dumb for contemplating doing this deal? way i look at it is i can either do this deal and fill the rest of my roster out with really, really good WRs and have iffy AT BEST RBs, or i can do this deal then try to flip T.O. and either Jamal Lewis or TJ for a better back, or i can just sit tight with what i have?

WHAT TO DO?!?!

LEAVE A LINK FOR RETURN HELP!!!!

I don't trust Addai. I'd keep MJD, unless you know you can deal one of your other guys for an upgrade at RB

Normally id say yes but since your league is so big id consider it as long as your getting Jones not Lewis. However since its a keeper and MJD is so much better and younger than anyone your getting id say pass on that deal.

I have to disclaim again that my familiarity is more with redraft leagues, but that said...

My thought process in considering this would be to look at your starting lineup under each scenario. Without the trade you're starting RB-MJD, W/R-TBD, W/T-TBD and with the trade, you're starting RB-Lewis/Jones, W/R-Wayne, W/T-Ocho. I'm assuming there aren't a lot of good RBs remaining in this draft or this guy wouldn't be trying to trade his best WRs in a package to get one. So I assume if you don't make the deal, you'll pick a high WR3 or so next for the W/T spot and then have a choice of a low WR3 type or a RB whos spliting carries at W/R. For simplicity's sake, lets call those two draft picks someone in the Cotchery/S.Moss range and then someone in the Torry Holt/LeSean McCoy range.

Would I rather have MJD-Cotchery-Holt OR Lewis-Wayne-Ocho ... personally, I think I'd still rather have the MJD side. (And I'd also add that if this guy really is that eager to get MJD, he'll be just as eager after the draft, so you can fill in those gaps and see what you've got before making a speculative deal based on future, uncertain picks).

All of that doesn't factor in keeper status, but MJD is young and I would think factoring keeper status would swing it further your way.

So... my vote is not to take this deal.

Keeper experts, feel free to refute me. ;-D

You take a big hit at RB give up MJD, leaving your with Addai and Lewis or Jones, BUT both TO and Evans at WR is not as good as having Wayne and Ocho (who I think will bounce back this year), two WR1s. Jones will be hard pressed to repeat last year's performance and Lewis is in a poor offense as well with a potential inexperienced QB taking the helm and no K2. Addai is looking good so far, but how that translates in to the season remains to be seen, still a question mark and injury risk in my book. Hope the lack of early season injuries overall will help him bounce back.

IMO, I would make this trade and then try to see I can make some moves to upgrade at running back. And even if you get Jones, were anything to happen, you have to Green handcuff. Despite TOs track record for his first year on a team, Edwards aint Romo or McNabb, or in your case Manning or Palmer if you make this trade. MJD is definite a great keeper, but what are you looking at next with TO and Evans opposed to Wayne and Ocho.

Thanks for your help and good luck!!!

awesome response, only thing is currently i have 19 picks until my next draft pick and the BEST available right now (again 19 picks between now and then) are:

Cotchery
Holt
Moore
Greg Olsen
Chris Cooley
Donald Driver
Steve Breaston
Big Ben
Zach Miller
John Carlson
Derrick Mason
Dominik Hixon
Sammy Morris
Matt Hasselbeck

best rookies left:
Brian Robiskie
Andre Brown (who is done for the year)
Jeremy Maclin
Pettigrew
Nicks

so the pickens are getting slim...

so talked to another guy in the league and he said he could do my T.O.+ RB (would be either Thomas Jones or Jamal Lewis) for his Chris Johnson...

only thing is i have to do the MJD deal, then wait for it to be processed and then do the deal with this guy... do i risk this or no? do i risk sending MJD in a deal and then having the guy with Johnson back out once the other deal is processed?

Do it. Why would this trade not get processed? There is no collusion, so there shouldn't be any reason for it to get rejected.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

not saying it would get rejected, what i saying is right now the owner of CJ is saying he will do T.O.+RB for CJ, but what happens if i do the MJD trade, it gets processed then i go back to the owner of CJ (by this time 4+ days have passed) and he says oh nvm i don't want to do the deal anymore...?

im guessing i could still get a deal done just by looking at some of the squads, one team has DWill, Gore, Slaton and JStew and only Percy Harvin and Kevin Walter at WR...
