My draft strategy just got turned on its head!

Postby hammertoes » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:58 pm

I'm in a 10 team keeper league with standard scoring, no PPR, and we start 2RB, 3WR, and 1RB/WR.

I am keeping the following players:
Andre johnson (2nd round)
Clinton Portis (4th round)
Marion Barber (8th round)
Larry Johnson (16th round)

I recently traded up in the first round because I wanted to take Calvin Johnson. He was the BPA and I wanted to have those two top 4 WR's. Then I was going to take another WR with my next pick in the 3rd (someone along the lines of Housh or Ocho) as my WR3 and have the position locked down. There would be plenty of servicable RB's later in the draft.

This was obviously just a loose plan, dependent on who fell to me.

Now I come to find that Steven Jackson will be available. I don't really want to take him, because he is so injury prone, but how can I pass him up? He could potentially be a top 5 RB at the end of the year. I COULD make an adjustment to my keepers and keep Warner instead of LJ, and then take SJAX. Then I could still take someone like Housh as my WR2 and then WR3 with my next pick, someone like DeSean Jackson or Eddie Royal.

I don't know. I guess I'm still leaning towards taking Calvin. I really like the idea of grabbing some dominant WRs early and then loading up on RBs later. But I hate the idea of the guy who picks after me getting SJAX (he already has Forte and Turner).

What would you do?

Whew, that is tough. I like the direction you are going, but you have 3 RBs that have a history of injuries and are considering another in the same boat. That is all around scary. Then again AJ and Warner have injury issues of their own. In a vaccuum (injuries aside) I keep Warner over LJ and take SJax. However, all things considered, I stay put, take Calvin and run. (I doubt I was any help at all) Based on that, don't help me :) I am leaving no link!

Lets look at this a little closer of which player has the most value.

Sjax is on every web pages top 6-7 RB. He is NOT in RBBC and is a major stud. He avg like 115yrd per game the last 4-5 games of 08 season. (off the top of my head did not confirm stats). He is a top 5 RB in PPG. He is not old... He would be the #1 RB on your team over Portis/Barber/LJ.

Starting Sjax,Barber flex Portis would be sick with AJ at WR#1. If he goes down you have LJ for bye weeks and injury weeks for your RB's. Thats serious depth and some major trade bait at RB.

If you can land guys like Housh,Royal,Vjackson,Roy W,85...two of them with AJ would be big. All 1000yrd 7TD+ guy

I'm a RB whore and will take a top 10 RB any day of the week before my #2 WR! But this is very tough call....lol.

ohh PS: 2 top O-Line men now with STL..helps big time. Don't let the STL sucks talk sway you away...they have always sucked and Sjax still kills it

i am advocating dodging sjax.

Calvin will round out your team much better.
