Would you Draft Schaub or Big Ben out of these avail QBs?

Postby AngryLionsFAn » Thu Aug 20, 2009 1:18 am

My keeper league retains 7 total players every year, (2 of which are rookies from the prev. year) so you can basically equate our 1st round to the 6th or 7th rd. of a re-draft league. I'm debating who I take at QB right now, and it's a distinct possibility that I could have the 7th, 10th, and 11th picks by trading a player for the 7th pick. I'm thinking that I go WR, TE (Clark), and QB to secure the rest of my starting roster right away.

The following QBs have already been kept:

Brees
Brady
Manning
Rivers
Rogers

I'm looking at the following QBs to be available (ordered by last year's scoring totals):

Cutler
McNabb
Pennington
Garrard
Romo
Eli
Orton
Big Ben
Schaub
Eli

I WILL NOT draft Romo ( No TO, crashes every Dec, I started Thigpen instead to win my Super Bowl). I am also not going to take Eli. Who I'm really thinking about right now is Schaub, McNabb, Big Ben.

I'm leaning towards Schaub because I think he can have a great season if he stays healthy. If I take Schaub, I'll be targeting at backup QB with some higher upside earlier then usual.

I think McNabb just hasn't been consistent enough in recent years, although his WRs and his Oline are getting better and better. I'm not sure how Vick getting on the field for Wildcat scenarios effects him though.

I think Big Ben is just an average QB, but he's on the upper end of the 2nd tier and he won't really cost you games, he just won't overwhelmingly push you over the edge into winning them either.

So what do you guys think? Who would you take given my options here? WHIR

I have them:

schaub
mcnabb
cutler
garrard (may edge his way up to the top 10 before you realize it)
romo (you're right to stay away, i don't like him to finish in the top 10 this year)

and the rest is sort of a grab-bag (here's how i have them):

pennington (i think he gets undervalued all the time)
big ben
orton
eli

give me Donovan McNabb, he will have a career year this year with all those weapons and a upgraded line... he will top what he did last year.. Schaub is nice and will do good but not as good as Dmac. i dont even see big ben in there class...

thanks for the help on mine!

I know you said "no Romo", but it's your loss if you take one of these other QB's while he's still on the board. He's a head and shoulders above all of these guys on fantasy terms.

If I had to choose between Big Ben and Schaub, the answer is Schaub. Both are injury prone, but one of them is passing to Andre Johnson. The other is on a run first team, who probably won't be behind enough that it will force Roethlisberger to air it out.

Romo
Cutler
Schaub
McNabb
Big Ben
Pennington
Orton
Eli (horrible receivers)
Garrard

Target Mcnabb or Schaub with Garrard as the 2. You will be very happy.

Schaub avg 20 plus points in the games he played.

Romo is a maybe. the more i read the less i like romo. But when you watch Dallas. The team looks great.

Cutler I am avoiding. Although I believe good qbs can make soso wrs appear to be great. Not vice versa. The opposite will be happening in Denver. Great wrs can't make a crap qb look decent.
