Moreno gone, take Wells over all other rookie backs?...Whir

Postby magus » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:51 am

Have the 1.3 pick in my keeper draft and I need to take a RB. Our league has standard categories. Pierre Thomas and K. Moreno will definitely go 1.1 and 1.2. What's left for me are Wells and all of the other rookie backs including Brown and McCoy. Mendenhall is also available. Would you still take Wells at 3 knowing the injury risk, or would you take a back like Brown? Thanks for any help. Leave a link.

I think that Brown and McCoy both have great upside. I would take either one of them over Wells.

Take DONALD BROWN without hesitation. He is looking great in camp based on team reportss and me watching preseason game. He will easily pass your eyeball test. Brown is explosive and can catch.

What are your keeper rules?

Wells hurt his ankle again yesterday. The guy is pure injury concern everytime he steps on the field. And he doesn't play through injuries.

If dynasty league could redraft right now....Donald Brown might be contending for the 1 spot. But is a surefire #2 unlike earlier in the summer.

Not to say Wells wont do well (no pun intended), but getting injured twice and you havent played an NFL game yet is worrisome. Brown and McCoy would be good picks, but for some reason I like Mendenhall on this one (McCoy second). Addai and Westy play with much better QBs where as Pitt starts and ends with the run. If Westy and Addai stay healthy, McCoy and Brown may have to wait their respective turns. Parker, not quite sure, dont know if even a healthy Parker can keep Mendenhall off the field. Just my opinion.

I will say this, my team is probably a year away from competing anyway. In addition, W. Parker is one of my keepers. We keep 10, here's my team:

M. Ryan
E. Manning
M. Bulger
A. Johnson
H. Ward
T. Holt
K. Smith
W. Parker
E. Graham
L. Maroney

You can see that my RB situation is in rough shape.

I think Donald Brown is a far better option than Wells. Beanie got drafted into a great situation, but he is injury prone. And he doesn't play through them. Also, Hightower was essentially a goal-line back last year, and even if Wells gets healthy, there's no reason to think that would change. I'd say if there aren't any other veterans out there Pierre Thomas caliber, go with Brown.

Mendenhall ain't nothing special. Power back with no moves. No jitter in his bug.

Always take talent over situation. You will be thankful later.

Help me out.

McCoy or Brown. Both Addai and Westy are injuries waiting to happen, and both RB's here look solid already, u cant lose with either.

if you are trying to compete this year i would go with Wells, i think (barring injury to himself or one to Addai/Westy) he will be the most productive, but if you are looking at next year i would go for Brown or McCoy

Brown will produce this season. No way the coaches will be able to keep him on the sideline. Unless they want to be fired.
