Draft Pick only trade

Postby jmog » Thu Aug 20, 2009 2:07 pm

Ok, this is a PPR league that is big enough on TEs that honestly 2 or 3 TEs go in the first round every season. So, only about 5-6 RBs go in the first, just as a basis for this argument.

I have the 2nd pick, 10 team snake draft.

I'm thinking of trading away the 2nd pick for this...

I give-1.2, 3.2, 6.9
I get-1.9, 2.2, 6.2

The draft pick value chart says I lose this trade by like 8 pts (3322 to 3314) but here me out on why I want to do it and then tell me if I'm retarded.

My keepers are Calvin Johnson and Matt Ryan, so I don't need a QB or WR that bad. Our league scoring is setup so that QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs all score relatively the same (top scorers at each position are about equal) which is why you see TEs go in the 1st round.

Anyway, I'm thinking this...

If I end up with 1.9, 2.2, and 2.9 I'll be able to get a top tier TE (big deal in our league) and a good 1st round RB like SJax, Westy, maybe even LT with the 1.9/2.2 picks, and then take a 2nd top tier WR with 2.9.

Now, you might say "but you will need a 2nd top tier RB".

No so in our league, we can start 0 RBs if we want, or as much as 2 RBs. We can start 0 TEs, or as much as 2 TEs, and anywhere from 1-5 WRs...the total of RB/WR/TE just has to be 5 starters...so our whole lineup is "flex" except for 1 WR spot.

I'm just thinking that a lineup that starts like this...

QB-Ryan (keeper)
RB-Westbrook (1.9, PPR league)
WR-Ca. Johnson (keeper)
WR-R. Wayne (2.9)
TE-Witten or Clark (2.2)

That's a better start, and I only have 1 more spot to fill that can be any RB/WR/TE, than if I keep 1.2 and get this...

QB-Ryan (keeper)
RB-MJD (1.2)
WR-Ca. Johnson (keeper)
WR-R. Wayne (2.9)
TE-Winslow or Cooley

So, basically it would be a trade that player wise lookes like this...

MJD and Winslow for Westy and Witten.

In a league that values TEs very much...2-3 gone in 1st round every year...what do you say?

Oh, last thing, the 6th round swap helps me out too, the 6th round is the first round of possible keepers for next season, we can't keep anyone drafted 5th or higher, and I'd be moving up to the 2nd pick in this round.
