New to IDPs - Few questons

Postby ukbsktbll » Sat Aug 22, 2009 4:29 pm

This will be the first year I am playing in a league with IDPs. We are playing 3 LBs, 2 DLs, and 2 DBs.

My questions are when in the draft do most people pick their IDPs. Which scores the most points, and does any site do mock drafts with IDPs?

Thanks

1. It's hard to say when people will start picking the IDP's because every draft is different. I usually wait until a few come off the board before even thinking about drafting the IDP's.

2. Your scoring looks pretty standard. Most of the time the LB's will score the most points because they get the most tackles. Middle LB's are usually more saught after. Next comes the DB's. S's usually score more than CB's. Then the DL's usually score the least. There are exceptions to all of this. Some of the top LB's are not MLB's. Antoine Winfield is a top DB at the CB position. The top DL's could be very valuable due to the high # of sacks they get.

3. I'm pretty sure that mockdraftcentral.com has IDP mock drafts.

Good luck! ;-D

thanks. We are actually doing our IDP draft separate. So go with LBs first and then DB and DLs?

Sort of. There are a whole bunch of good LB's out there but not so many DB's. You want IDP's that get a high number of tackles on a consistant basis. You should grab that top tier LB in round 1 (i.e. P. Willis, J. Beason, B. Ruud, J. Mayo, D. Jackson). Once that top tier is gone then I'd snatch up a top tier DB or two (if possible) before going back into LB's again. Guys like C. Gamble, A. Winfield, C. Tillman as DB's and E. Weddle, Gibril Wilson and Y. Bell at Safety are good guys to target. After that it drops off quickly.

I'd go:

LB
DB
DB (if top tier still on board, otherwise go LB again)
LB
LB (or DB if you took LB in rd 3)
DL
DL
bench players (pretty much in the same order as starters)

I can see by your scoring format that your IDP league is what I call a Low IDP Performance Points League. What this means is your IDP guys will not be as valuable as most of your offensive starters. You don't get points for returns and your performance points are low, so I'd say get some good LB's early to mid and look for value at the other D positions after that. LB's are the most consistent producers in low IDP Performance Points Leagues followed by CB's. Your league gives very few points for sacks so DE's are right around the same as TE's maybe even lower. There are only a couple of DT's that produce each season so I just stay away from them usually.

I hope this helps.
