AM I CRAZY!? PPR LEAGUE DRAFT w/BONUS WHIR

Postby Wiserman20 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:18 pm

** For those that have thoughts thanks in advance and please link your topic.

This is a fairly high dollar league so this decision is fairly critical starting off my teams foundation

PPR League but has some big bonus' that lead to high scores especially for QB's (1st time in this league this is what I'm hearing).

Points provided to QB's;

* 6 pts per TD, 1pt per 25 yds, 1 pt bonus 200 yds, 2 pts 300 yds, 1 pt 350, 1pt 400, 1pt 450

RB's and WR's (points above 1pt PPR)

* 6pts per TD, 1 pt per 10yds (Rush and Rec), 1 pt 50 yds bonus, 2 pt 100, 1 pt 150, 1pt 200, 1pt 250

I have # 2 Pick in the Draft of a 10 man league. AP is going # 1

Am I crazy to consider Brees or Brady at # 2 GIVEN the Bonus structure!?!...

Breaking down '08 stats and using this scoring method, Brees would have had 7! games 30-40pts.. Averaging 26 points.

Neither MJD or Forte smell that.. Breaking them down WITH PPR and bonus' they still average 18 and 19 points..

If Brees or Brady go 4,500 plus with 30+ TD's, they will easily be top of the charts in terms of total points.. HOWEVER, at #2 going QB, I'm looking at 19 and 22.. giving me a Steve Smith/Boldin type WR and RB is a toss up depending on who falls into Round 2.

TL;DR - Will I be able to recover the points drop off going big # 2 with an elite QB, or am I still safer taking MJD/Forte and winning over average score in your opinions?

Thanks in advance and again link your question and I'd be happy to drop my 2 cents.

Even in this format you need to grab a solid ppr RB with your first pick and wait to grab a QB later that will not be far off the production of Brees/Brady. The dropoff at RB will be much more severe than the dropoff at QB. You don't draft a QB in this spot because they score a lot more than the RB drafted there. Think of it like this. What is the difference in points between the RB you get there and the RB you get later in the draft compared to the QB you get there and the QB you get later in the draft. Not to mention you are required to start at least 2 RBs making the RB position that much more scarce. Your scoring does not warrant a QB being drafted in the first round, let alone the 2nd pick. The only time a QB should be drafted in the 1st round is if you are required to start 2 QB. Grab AD or MJD and mcnabb/romo/ryan/palmer/etc. later in the draft. ;-D

Forte or MJD should still be your guy. You really aren't gaining anything on your opponents by taking Brady or Brees there since there are plenty of qb's who get nice boosts from this scoring. The RB's that catch passes like MJD/Forte get a huge boost getting over 60 catches out of your rb is big. Scoring really doesn't seem to favor QB's too much more since everyone gets bonuses.

Thanks for the input... I'n situations like this it's easy to get caught up in the numbers and try to get cute.. Looks like it's back to the MJD/Forte debate at # 2
