I have a terrible team from last year, need to keep one of these guys. Please give me your reasoning! I'm leaning towards McFadden thinking that the Raiders run the ball ALOT, and he should be the Man, with further upside years down the road. This is not a PPR league, otherwisw standard scoring.
I would probably take McFadden over Smith. They are ranked pretty even going into this season. Smith is the safe pick but McFadden has more upside in my opinion. If he stays healthy, he could have a monster season.
I think long term potential McF has a much higher upside than Smith. For this year I think that Smith is the safer pick, but 3yrs from now I think you would be kicking yourself. Good luck.
Kevin Smith is the better overall pick than McFadden for this season IMO, because Michael Bush will be in the mix somewhat for the Raiders, esp. on the red-zone. I don't think anyone is threatening on taking carries away from Kevin Smith in Detroit this season.
For one or two years i dont even think its close. Kevin Smith by a landslide. NOBODY else is going to touch the ball in the backfield in Detroit. Its all Smith.

I would go with Smith......Smith finished strong last season and like the other posters had said "He has no competition or backup in D-Town".....DMC has Bush and Fargas and even though DMC has great upside and has looked great in preseason he still has RBBC looking over his shoulders!
Take Smith for this year!

Really tough call b/c I agree five years from now DMC is probably who you want. That said, I'm a sucker for guys that don't have any competition, and DMC has a lot of it, while Smith has none. There is nothing more frustrating to me that tracking gamecenter and see my RB's team score a TD, only to flip over and see that it was the other/goal line RB that scored it. As Chris Johnson owner last year it just burned my ass everytime I saw Lendale pop a 2 yard TD in. I have a slight lean to Smith. As bad as Detroit is, Oakland isn't much better. Jamarcus Russell is NOT an NFL QB, and Al Davis is an idiot, so three years from now I could see the Lions possibly on the upswing, while I can see te Raiders the same old crap team.
Don't pick a player based on what they will do "5 years from now".... You don't want to be holding onto to something that long, just waiting. I would go Smith. McFadden has too much competition on a bad team that is not going to score often. Smith has Calvin Johnson to help move the chains and no competition, plus, you know he will contribute now and the next year, which is what you are playing for. (At least you should be... chasing "3-years from now" players all the time is not a good srategy). Go Smith.
