HELP! Nate Washington is my WR1??! -- WHIR

Postby zechs » Wed Aug 26, 2009 2:53 pm

Well, here's the skinny... my draft went QB-heavy early in this league -- 5 QBs were taken in the 1st round!
This is a 12-team Points league w/ PPR, return-yardage, and IDP format scoring; I picked 8th on this draft.
0.5 pt. per reception, 1 pt. per 25 return yards

With those in mind, my strategy was:
1.) Target "PPR-friendly" RBs early
2.) Salvage my QB situation
3.) Target top punt/return men and fill out the roster with WR3-types

This is how my team ended up:
QB- Matt Schaub (Rd. 6)
QB- Matt Cassell (Rd. 8)
WR- Nate Washington (Rd. 13)
WR- Steve Smith NYG (Rd. 16)
WR- Davone Bess (Rd. 17)
WR- Patrick Crayton (Rd. 18)
RB- Steve Slaton (Rd. 1)
RB- LaDainian Tomlinson (Rd. 2)
RB- Pierre Thomas (Rd. 3)
TE- Visanthe Shiancoe (Rd. 12)
TE- Kevin Boss (Rd. 14)
W/R/T- Kevin Smith (Rd. 4)
Q/W/R/T- Darren McFadden (Rd. 5)
K- ((who cares! lol))
DEF- New York Giants (Rd. 9)
DEF- Minnesota (Rd. 10)
D- Jon Beason (Rd. 20)
LB- DeMeco Ryans (Rd. 21)
DB- Oshiomogho Atogwe (Rd. 22)
DL- Osi Umenyiora (Rd. 23)
BN- Darren Sproles (Rd. 7)
BN- Leon Washington (Rd. 11)
BN- JaMarcus Russell (Rd. 15)
BN- Johnnie Lee Higgins (Rd. 19)

Feel free to pick apart my team and my strategy. Would you have done the same as I did?
I appreciate all the insight in advance.

I don't usually do leagues where you get return yardage points but why wouldn't you have gone with WR's who return kicks to make up for the lack of good WR's. Essentially I don't understand the Sproles pick since you had such good actual RB's his return yardage is going to do you no good on the bench. Why not get guys like Maclin or someone who you can play at WR and will get you return yards.

On the Sproles pick, he was primarily a handcuff pick for LT; him excelling as a return man was just gravy. Sproles and Washington will be matchup plug-ins for a flex spot throughout the season.

Unless I see/hear news stating otherwise, guys like Davone Bess and Patrick Crayton should be starting WRs as well as return men this season.
Joshua Cribbs is available to be picked up if I need a fill-in at WR right away.

I might try to trade LT for a R. White type and a decent #2 WR. You have 4 of the top 17 RBs but your wrs are terrible I think you may only have 2 decent #4 WR options in washington and smith with the rest being waiver wire fodder. Maybe try to trade for welker or eddie royal since it's ppr also.
