I have the last pick in my fantasy football draft this year, which also happens to be our first year doing a keeper league (2 players).
It's a H2H points league. We do .5 points per reception, 3 point bonus for 100 yard rushing or receiving, and a 3 point bonus for all tds over 40 yds. Besides that, the scoring is standard, 4 point pass TD, 6 point rush/receiving TD, 1 point for 10 yards rushing or receiving, etc. etc.
So I was wondering what people though I should aim for with these two picks. Obviously WR's have a much longer shelf life in the NFL than RB's, and with the emergence of some young WR's in Fitzgerald and Calvin, I was thinking those two would make a hell of a core to carry through for years to come. But what if someone like LT or Westbrook slips to 12? Do I take them knowing I'm probably on borrowed time with them? What about if Brees falls to 12, who was above and beyond the #1 player in our scoring system for fantasy last year?
Just curious as to how people would approach the 12/12 pick, particularly in the situation of a 1st year keeper league.
In a 12 team keeper with 2 players already on each roster the chances of getting Fitz, Calvin, LT, Westbrook or even Brees is slim to none with the 12th pick.
It would be easier to offer advice here if we know who is already off the board, particularly who your keepers were.
Sorry, I read over your post too quickly and totally missed that it was a first year keeper league. With that in mind my initial post now makes no sense.
Calvin might slip to you but I doubt Fitz would. If he does, take him. I also don't see LT or Westbrook making it that far but you never know, they just might. If one of them does then I go WR/RB (doesn't matter which order since you pick at the turn). Brees would likely fall there but in a ppr you want to load up on WR's and RB's (especially pass catching RB's) asap so I would pick a combo WR/RB with the two picks at the turn.
It's actualy half a point per reception. Here was the scoring for the top 25 players last year with our system:
1 Brees, Drew QB NO 404 2 Rodgers, Aaron QB GB 328 3 Rivers, Philip QB SD 325 4 Warner, Kurt QB ARI 325 5 Cutler, Jay QB CHI 324 6 Turner, Michael RB ATL 312 7 Williams, DeAngelo RB CAR 300 8 Manning, Peyton QB IND 297 9 Peterson, Adrian RB MIN 293.5 10 McNabb, Donovan QB PHI 279 11 Johnson, Andre WR HOU 277.5 12 Cassel, Matt QB KC 274 13 Forte, Matt RB CHI 265 14 Fitzgerald, Larry WR ARI 262 15 Pennington, Chad QB MIA 253 16 Romo, Tony QB DAL 251 17 Johnson, Calvin WR DET 247 18 Jones, Thomas RB NYJ 247 19 Garrard, David QB JAC 242.5 20 Slaton, Steve RB HOU 241 21 Jones-Drew, Maurice RB JAC 240 22 Tomlinson, LaDainian RB SD 239 23 Thigpen, Tyler QB KC 232.5 24 Westbrook, Brian RB PHI 232 25 Manning, Eli QB NYG 228
It's a QB dominated league, but you do only start 1 QB where instead you start 2 RB, 2 WR and also a flex player, either RB or WR.
I'm really unsure of where Westbrook and Tomlinsion will fall to. Keep in mind, this is a keeper league, so youth does have a value, especially in these first two rounds.

Of course this list demonstrates why you SHOULDN'T go QB in the first few rounds. Besides Brees, the difference between the next 5 or so QBs is 30 pts. The diff between the 1st RB and the 5th is 65: more than double.
I would take any of Fitz/Calvin/LT if they were there at the end of the 1st.

Very much agreed. I'm hoping that two of those guys are available when it gets to me at 12. While LT isn't optimal since it's a keeper league, it'd be hard to pass them up.
