Newbie - Please Rate my Roster

Postby Mello » Thu Aug 27, 2009 12:06 pm

Well, after years of avoiding FF, I finally joined a league with some coworkers. I should have done this years ago ;-D. We have a 12 Team League, I had the 12th pick. Here's what I ended up with:

League Info: Non-PPR
Positions: QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,WR/TE,K,DEF,6 Bench.
Rules: Only difference from Yahoo standard is players get 1 pt/20 return yds.

Roster:
QB: Rivers
RB: S. Jackson
RB: Sproles
WR: R. Moss
WR: A. Gonzalez
WR: S. Holmes
WR/TE: Holt
K: Vinatieri
DEF: Chicago

BN QB: Roethlisberger
BN RB: Julius Jones
BN RB: Benson
BN WR: Burleson
BN WR: Ginn Jr.
BN WR: Crayton

Overall I'm happy with my team. Where I'm uncertain is in my RB2 and WR 3 & 4 spots. Sproles is a good returner but I'm afraid he's not going to get TDs and yardage consistently enough to rely on as a starter unless LDT gets injured. For my WRs, I'm not sure there's much of a difference between Holmes, Holt, Burleson, and Ginn. Right now I'm thinking of just waiting until the season starts and choosing 2 each week depending on who's expected to get the ball and what defense they are playing each week. Since this is my 1st year, I have no idea how things are going to play out though. Maybe I should try to package a couple players together and trade for a better player though? Any thoughts?

with the return yards, it opens up a whole world of possibilities. I think you should be good with this roster. Maybe look for some rookie RB or WR who will be getting return duties and grab them up quick to replace your WR3/4

You could use some RB help. Surprised not to see Brady/Moss at the 12 pick. Very capable squad.

Opps, I left of Moss' first name. Edited now. I picked Randy Moss and Steven Jackson at 12/13. Brady tempted me, but I'm happy that Rivers was still around later. Thanks for the feedback.

If Benson has a good year and S Jax stays healthy you will be fine. Jones is not looking so well thus far so I might look at replacing a wr with Edge so atleats you have another starting back regardless between he and Jones.

I would see if you can trade Sproles and Benson for a better #2. In hindsight, you should've grabbed a safer RB2 and leave the potential boomers for the bench. As it is, you're hoping Sproles has a big year.

BUT, when/if LT goes down with an injury offer Sproles for a premium value trade or just ride him. Weeks 5 -7 and 11 - 13 are sweet weeks. Week 15 is also a nice playoff matchup.
