12 Team: 2nd Pick WHIR

Postby El_Filibusterismo » Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:53 am

12 team yahoo league. Standard scoring. Non-PPR. I had the 2nd Pick

QB- Matt Schaub
WR- Steve Smith
WR- Desean Jackson
WR- Anthony Gonzalez
RB- Matt Forte
RB- Frank Gore
TE- Zach Miller
K- Nick Folk
DEF- Eagles

BN- Matt Hasselbeck
BN- Knowshon Moreno
BN- Percy Harvin
BN- Rashard Mendenhall
BN- Miles Austin
BN- Greg Camarillo

How did I do? Pretty satisfied with it but made some early reaches with Austin and Harvin and I do not like my QB's that much (was hoping for Ryan as starter and Palmer as my backup).

WHIR.

Solid team. I like your starters a lot. Desean and Gonzo are question marks as #2s, but I like both of them. Your bench is a bunch of boom or bust players. They're all unknowns on their own teams, so I don't have any idea what to expect.

If you stay healthy, you should be in contention.

Real good team. I like your QB situation. Schaub has some injury concerns, but you got a quality back up. The RB situation is also very solid. I like Smith and Gonzalez at WR. Jackson seems hit or miss, but not a bad guy to have at WR3. This should be a top team in your league. I'd just be on the look out for a waiver wire WR/TE early on in the season.

Very nice team although I would have taken AP or MJD at 2 rather than Forte, especially in non-ppr. I agree u should check out the waiver wire for another WR or TE once the season starts. You can drop Camarillo, he is hurt and Bess is the 2. Your bench is kinda weak besides Knowshon's upside, but ur starters are very solid for a 12 team league. I also worry about DeSean. He has talent, but the Eagles are known for spreading it around and have more options on offense this year through the draft, Maclin and McCoy. Either way I see the playoffs in your future.

One thing that jumps off the page to me looking at your team is A Gonz in your starting WR core..

In a Non PPR Format I'm not sure how productive he's going to be day in and day out.. Although anyone running around as probably the # 2 look (I say probably cause of D Clark) for the Colts is always an option. Just not sure how many red zone looks he'll get/TD's he'll grab ya.

Outside of maybe upgrading there I really don't see a whole lot going on (I'm not going to get into the AP, MJD, Forte convo I'm over it personally.. At the end of the day they could all end up within a few points of each other unless someone gets hurt)

Great team.

The Good: Gore late in the 2nd and Smith in the 3rd were absolute steals. The Forte/Gore combo at RB is amazing. I also like DJax and Gonzalez as your 2nd and 3rd WR and think they both have a good shot at outperforming their draft positions. The Schaub/Hasselbeck combo at QB should be very solid and taking your QB later allowed you to get your RBs & WRs early in the draft. Mendenhall has potential and seems like a good value pick. Camarillo was also a good value pick and should be a solid backup (with little upside) if your other WRs don't pan out.

The Bad: The bench. I think Moreno is being overvalued. He won't play much early and then he'll have to share carries in a crowded backfield for a while. He may not do much until midseason, but you need him to fill in for Forte and Gore in weeks 5 and 6. There should have been other upside picks around where you got him. You probably also reached for Harvin and Austin when you could have built more RB depth. I bet Chris Henry and Earl Bennett were both available later in the draft and I think their upside is at least equal to (if not better than) Harvin and Austin.

Overall: A-. Great job rounding out the starters but your bench is a little concerning, especially Moreno as your RB3. He could be good by the playoffs (when you won't need him) but I don't think he'll do much week 5 and 6 (when you do need him). You have some good sleeper potential but you may have reached for the WRs.

Bottom line: Should make the playoffs but may have early bye week issues that make it a closer call rather than a lock. If you get past week 6 in good shape, I like your chances a lot better. Once the playoffs start, I really like this team for a deep run and possible championship.
