End of the draft- handcuff or upside?

Postby 011472 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:26 pm

I'll put this in leftovers because I think it's always a good theoretical topic, but if the mods believe it belongs in the draft forum, that's fine too.

I'm approaching the last non-kicker round of a slow draft in which I'll be starting 2 RBs. My RBs are Portis, Jacobs, Benson, McCoy and Norwood. I'd like to grab one more RB. Given the somewhat weak state of my starters, is it wiser to handcuff Portis with Betts or take a guy like J. Davis or B. Scott, who have more upside, especially considering this is a keeper league, so finding a guy who could start in 2010 in the late rounds is a true bonus

Thanks.

I don't think Portis is one of the guys that you really would want to work to handcuff to another back. If we were talking about Ahmad Bradshaw or something to pair with Jacobs that would be one thing, but especially seeing as how you have Benson already, it makes the most sense to take Bernard Scott there I think as I don't think it will be too long before Scott could outshine Benson.

Thanks, Matt. I don't know how I missed the Benson-Scott connection. Even with that, my concern is that if Portis goes down, I'm looking at starting Jacobs and whomever is the guy in Cincy. :-o

IT is more of a pure draft question so I will move it over to DTKW.

MAtt is right... you need to have Scott even though I would take Davis easily over him. Davis I believe to be a starter for CLevelnad no later than mid season.... Scott could be a wasted pick but since BEnson is already on board... you knid of have to draft him.

Betts is out of the equation.

Honestly...if Portis goes down you'll be struggling anyway so I wouldn't bother worrying about that too much. Betts won't put up the same kind of production that Portis would and I think that Scott and Davis both, should they take over that some point, can and will both outperform Betts if he ended up taking over.

I like Davis and Scott reasonably equally right now, I think that Scott is in a slightly better situation in Cincy and would rather have him because of that and because you already have Benson and are relying on him as your RB3.
