Brett Favre - my 2009 folly - drop for Palmer?

Postby dgcesq » Sun Aug 30, 2009 10:31 pm

I'm happy with my draft, other than at QB. Starting QB is Jay Cutler, who will be adequate. I took Favre as QB2, but am thinking now that he really has very little upside this year. First, he's old, old, old, and had only an average season with the Jets last year. Second, Vikings are AP's team - run first, run often. And, other than Berian, I don't think there are too many receiving options. In short, I think Favre is not going to have a big season. On the other hand, carson Palmer is younger, he's on a team with no offensive weapons outside of the pass, and they'll be playing from behind most of the year. Am I right thinking he's better QB2 than, say, Matt Ryan?

I'm personally big on Carson this year. If he can stay healthy he has a lot of good weapons in that receiving corps. Favre on the other hand i'm not too big on, he's coming off surgery, old, and out of football shape. Grab Palmer. ;-D

Palmer has much higher upside. For where he is being drafted he could be a steal. Noone has confidence in him so what better than a backup. If he steps you can play matchups. If not you only need him a week anyway.

How did Palmer and Ryan go undrafted? Did half the league not take a backup QB? But heck yeah dump Favre and grab Palmer

Drop Favre and flip a coin between Palmer and Ryan; Palmer has the highest upside among the 3.
