Having Doubts about Jacobs and Ward!!! WHIR!!!

Postby WhipperSnappers44 » Mon Aug 31, 2009 6:48 am

Hey all.....in a 12 Team PPR (1 point per reception) league with IDPs

I picked up Jacobs with my 3 round pick (I was pick #4) and I am having doubts about him and his health this year (considering he has already been banged up already)!

I was wondering what other RB's I could or should target for Jacobs straight up?

I personally like K.Smith but I might be giving up too much.....should I try and trade or just stay put?

On another note I am not at ease with Ward being my RB3 either with the whole rotation they are going to be using. I still feel Ward will breakout as the #1 RB in TB eventually and since he is my backup then I'm not worried too much but what kind of RB could I get for Ward as well (or should I just keep him since his value is ultra low now with the news and I probably wouldn't get much for him)?

My team is in the signature:

Thanks and I WHIR!!!

1. You have 7 wide receivers but you're starting only 2 from what I see?
I think you should increase the numbers of RB's and/or beef up your RB's with 2 for 1 combos that decreasy your WR's and increase your RB's.
Ward should be good in a PPR. Jacobs should be good but not a great PPR back . If you want to improve, combo one or the other with a WR and go see which RB's catch balls... target them. Pick up someone like Faulk off the waiver wire and drop the garbage WR's like Branch . You need to trade or start looking for sleeper backs like Coffee and that Cinci back who is set to kick Benson off the starting role by mid season.

Help me out. Thanks in advance:

Thanks for the reply......I forgot to mention some more of the league rules though that will make this all change.

In this league there was a 30 person draft. Mainly alot of IDP's are picked up and they also bring alot of points. We start 2 of each position (2DB, 2DL, 2LB).....most people have about 5 in each position.

Also, there is no WW and we cannot pickup or drop any players. We do 2 Supp drafts per year after week 4 and after week 8 and have 2 picks in each of the drafts. There is no dropping players also so what we have is what we have. We also can make multiple trades without having to drop anyone (for example....I could do a 5 for 1 trade and wouldn't have to drop 4 player....which means some teams will have more players then others)

Also, WR's are very important in this league depth wise as well because some don't pan out or if there is an injury then we can't just go to the WW (plus guys like Chambers and Branch are almost garbage on my team so I don't even count them)

Finally, there isn't anyone even worth anything on the WW if there was one. All the backups to backups, etc.... have all been taken!

I am just trying to figure out who I could target for Jacobs straight up or for Ward straight up? I would have to go down on the trade to make it appealing to the other people otherwise they won't do it......so I am wondering if guys like K.Smith or DMC or something would be a bad move to trade Jacobs for? (will Jacobs hold up?) I tried getting Bradshaw but the guy that has him wants a fortune for him! Also, I tried even moving Ward for R.Rice and couldn't even do that so is Ward that bad? Who should I try and get for him? Should I even try? These are the questions I have that are killing me!

Thanks again for the help and I will 100% help yours!

I'm not a huge fan on Jacobs either, especially in a PPR, but he does have a ton of upside if he can stay healthy. I'd put him around RB #10-#15 in a PPR, which puts him in the same general area as Portis, R. Brown, K. Smith, MBIII, etc. Portis is probably the one I'd target, maybe see if you can snag Westbrook if the owner is scared of his injuries (although then they'd be your worries!). You won't get much for Ward right now, too many unknowns. I think he'll be an okay #3 RB for you, just hold onto him.

Thanks for the reply.....the funny thing is the guy who has Bradshaw has Portis and Gore! He asked me who I wanted for Jacobs a while back and I said either Gore or Portis but he didn't want to trade thme so....

I also tried an offer of Jacobs for R.Brown/R.Williams and that also got shot down.

My question to your reply is that I am from Detroit originally and I have my eyes really set on K.Smith and I am almost positive that I could trade Jacobs for K.Smith. My question though is would I be saleing jacobs too short for K.Smith 1 for 1??? Or is K.Smith good value for Jacobs and a good RB2 (I also like Smith because he is the lone RB in the system and no RBBC deal or good backup like Bradshaw to steal carries)

So......would Jacobs for K.Smith be good?

Thanks again!

IMO, it's a risk/reward thing. I think Jacobs has more upside. If he stays healthy and plays all 16 games, he could put up top 6-8 RB numbers. But, chances are he'll miss some time, it's just a matter of how much time. Smith most likely will be a solid #2 RB, but doesn't have the upside that Jacobs does. I think Jacobs holds more value, so if you wanted to make the offer, try to get him to throw in an upgrade somewhere else.

Thanks and WHIR!!!
