1st Pick in a PPR League - Need some advice! - WHIR

Postby Guido_BagDonnavich » Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:05 pm

I have the 1st pick in a 10-team PPR league draft taking place tomorrow.

League Rules:
QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN
Passing Yards 25 yards per point
Passing Touchdowns 3 points
Interceptions -2 points
Rushing Yards 10 yards per point
Rushing Touchdowns 6 points
Receptions 1 point
Reception Yards 20 yards per point
Reception Touchdowns 6 points
Return Touchdowns 6 points
Fumbles Lost -2 points
Field Goal 3 points

When I first found out I had the 1st pick I instantly thought I would take Adrian Peterson. Now I'm having second thoughts. I'm strongly considering taking Matt Forte. Who should I take with the 1st overall pick? AP? Forte? Maybe even MJD? Any help is greatly appreciated and I'll return the favor.

Thanks!

This decision gets tough when you throw in PPR. If you want Forte try and trade down to the 3rd pick. I think taking him number 1 is too high. The guy did awesome last night by catching one and rushing for 1 but I still feel last year was about as good as he gets. Don't get me wrong he had an awesome year. But the upside is limited when compared to MJD or ADP who can punch out more TD's.

If you feel MJD is going to get 300+ carries this year then take him. He will catch a ton of passes out of the backfield and probably get 15+ total TD's. ADP is supposedly working on his catching but I still feel they use Chester for that. Chester seems to shine with what they give him too.

I am torn this way as well....luckily I had the 4th pick in my draft and I was luckily enough to get Forte there!

Ap is almost an instant pick with the #1 overall but I can see where anyone would make a case for Forte. Even MJD people are hard up on as well.

Personally I would pick Forte just because I like him so much and think he is a beast! (I call him LT Prime Time) just because he rushes, catches and even passes (according to the preseason game the other day when he tried to throw a pass)

Most the concensus would take AP and I can see that as well but Forte (only in his 2nd season) is the pick that I pick! (you heard it here first)!!!

Good Luck but AP/Forte.....whatever your gut tells you!

(I like the idea of trading down a couple of spots or even 1 spot so the other person/people will grab Ap and MJD and you can get Forte and something added into it (like a later round pick or swap)!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick responses. It's going to be very hard for me to trade down with the people in my league. I'm not concerned about going with a pick that's not the "norm" but I don't want to draft a bust. I personally think that Forte may improve this year due to the presence of a passing game (and one that he is featured in). Any other opinions?

i hate saying this but i would take mjd in a ppr. the guy gets a ton of rec's, plus is obviously solid w/ the number of carries he gets and what he does with them. non-ppr, i take ad w/out a thought, but in a ppr, i begrudgingly take mjd.
good luck!

I had the same situation in my draft but I went with ADP because I feel he is in a great situation to excel this year and has an amazing schedule throughout the year. I noticed that in your rules it says that receiving yards are 1 pt for every 20 yards. I think this makes a big difference and will take away some of the effect of the added bonus of PPR. The 1 pt for every 10 rushing yards will be a huge advantage for a rusher who gets a ton of yards like ADP. Jones Drew has never held a full load before and could prove not up to the challenge. Forte is a solid player and I could see a challenge for him going 1, but I feel ADP is more proven. There will also be great results with Favre posing a solid passing game where defenses wont be able to stack the line against ADP. I think ADP will post solid stats this year and will be very worthy of the 1st pick even in a PPR league.

I don't think that the 20 yds receiving per point will hurt Forte or MJD that much. Forte finished second in scoring last year by my leagues rules (behind DeAngelo Williams).
