Strategy with #2 pick

Postby pizzaboy76 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:13 am

I'm in a 12 team H-2-H league. We give 6 points for all TD's, 1 pt for every 50 yds passing, and 1 pt for every 20 yds rush/rec.

Do I go with Turner, MJD, or Forte with #2? Or do I take a top QB with 6 pts for each passing TD?

If I take a RB, do I take best available QB/WR with the 2nd round pick and do the same in the 3rd?

Any thoughts on strategy with the 2nd (and in my opinion worst) draft slot would be appreciated.

Go RB with #2 than take the best value at either RB or WR in the 2nd.

I take D-Will then hope for Moss, Calvin or Jennings in the 2nd. JMO.

There is no way I would take DWill as the second pick of the draft. Look at MJD or Forte in ppr

Turner or DeAngelo imo as they will probably have the next highest rushing yard totals.

Definitely do not draft MJD. It's not like he'll be scoring 30 TDs all of a sudden. He was the GLB the past few years so expect the same amount of TDs. Also 20 yards per reception does not favor pass catching backs unless the points are fractional. You'll end up with some backs catching between 20 and 40 yards or betwen 40 and 60 yards, leaving points on the table if it's not fractional.

You want a back that gets all their yards through one medium in that case.

We actually do include fractional points.

I've basically "narrowed" it down to MJD, Forte, Deangello, and Turner.

Turner scares me becuase of his big load last year, but he doesn't have the same big load history as other backs. Atlanta also has the toughest schedule for RB's.

MDJ will be the #1 guy now so his numbers should increase overall and he can do it on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield. Also easy schedule and healthy off line.

I like Forte and he is similar to MDJ in many regards. Will Cutler take yards/TD's away from him or help him. Some Question marks there.

Will DeAngelo repeat last year? Will Stewart be a factor this year? Again some ?'s in my opinion.

Have I mentioned I hate the 2nd spot in the draft?

It is much to early for deangelo imo, go Turner/Forte/MJD in non ppr, ppr go Forte/MJD/Turner.

At #2, you cant go wrong with MJD or Forte here. Because of the absence of Taylor, the expectations of MJD are high and rightfully so. Taylor wasnt that much of a factor last season and the addition of Holt helps him a lot. With Forte, Cutler certainly keeps 8-9 out the box as opposed to Orten and Grossman, which give Forte much more room to work along with Hester and Bennett stretching the field. I like MJD here because 6 games against the Colts, Texans, and Titans (minus Hayneworth) defenses is 6 games off top where he can put up big numbers.

I'd go MJD mostly based on him having a fresher body than Turner or Forte (both of whom had over 370 touches last year). I also think Jacksonville really upgraded their O-line over the injury mess that it was last year.

You could argue that MJD has the highest cieling of any RB in the draft. Peterson is an incredible rusher and his numbers reflect that, but he is spelled by chester taylor quite often, especially on third downs. MJD will never leave the field and his talents will be on full display as both a runner and a reciever. I don't see how you could pass up on a guy who could potentially lead the league in both yards and TDs.
