Had an extra pick so now I need to drop someone...

Postby hammertoes » Tue Sep 01, 2009 1:01 pm

I'm in a 10 team league that plays 2RB, 3WR, & 1 RB/WR. I had my draft recently and came away with the following:

QB-McNabb, Roethlisberger
RB-Barber, Portis, L.Johnson, Stewart, Ward, Bradshaw
WR-A. Johnson, Cal. Johnson, Smith (Car), Ginn, Breaston
TE- Dallas Clark
K-Longwell
DST-Seahawks, Packers

My problem is that I have an extra player because I had aquired an extra pick in trade. Normally, I would drop a DST. They went surprisingly early this year and I was the last to take one (in the 13th round of a 16 round draft!) so I couldn't get an elite unit. But I'd like to keep them both and play the matchup every week, as between them they have 7 games vs. Detroit, St. Louis, and Cleveland, plus games vs. traditionally lower scoring teams like Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

But if I do keep them both, I don't know who to drop before week 1. I wasn't really happy with either Ginn or Breaston as my WR4, and since I have three studs starting for me at WR, I could possibly drop one of them, but they both could wind up being very solid this year. I don't really have any "first round quality" RBs, but I think my group is very solid and I don't really want to lose any of that depth.

What do you recommend?

If it were me, I would drop the Seahawks DEF. However, if you really want to keep the 2 defenses then I would drop Breaston. If Fitzgerald and Boldin stay healthy then Breaston will definitely not be getting as many looks as last year. Plus with the addition of Beanie Wells it looks like Arizona may try to go for a more balanced rushing/passing attack which also equals less catches for Breaston.

Drop one of your D/ST. You can almost always find a D/ST with a great matchup on the WW everyweek.

Even with being deep at WR and RB, I would not give another owner the advantage of grabbing a Bradswhaw, Ward, or Breaston off the wire. I would drop Seattle's D. NOW, if you want to keep two defenses and your league does not count return yards, Breaston is the odd man out.

Seahawks D or Breaston if you are really set on the 2 D's
