12th pick draft strategy..WHIR

Postby Coz1 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 2:33 pm

Trying to figure out what my strategy is going into draft Thurs. night. I'm picking 12th in a 12 team league, fairly standard scoring 1 pt per reception and completion, 6 points for a passing TD as well. Also, 15 yards per receiving point and 20 yards per passing point

Ideas...maybe WR/QB for RD 1 and 2?

If Brady/Brees aren't there then I would say just wait til the 3rd/4th to grab a QB and go with best available.

I was 12th in an online mock this year and I remembered a part of an ESPN fantasy special that I agree with. You MUST get at least one elite WR. After Calvin, Andre, Moss, Fitz, and now with Marshall gone, top tier WR's are scarce. That being said, you can address this right away, or get yourself Brees, Brady, or Peyton and forget about what QB you are going to draft in later rounds...

Your settings look pretty qb and wr heavy (especially qb - if I read correctly you get 1 pt per completion, 6 for td, and 1 per 20 yds?). similar to my league, and I had the 12th (and last) pick. Brady went 2nd, Brees 5th. I was faced with taking either manning or aaron rodgers with the 1st pick in the second round, which I thought was a little high. I went LDT and Moss. By the time my pick came around again warner, manning, rodgers were gone. Odds are, if you want a top tier qb you will need to take him with the 12th or 13th pick.

With PPR, you may be able to wait on RB a little and grab leon washington in the 3rd or 4th. If you get an elite WR and QB with your top 2 picks, you will be fine with those settings. keep an eye out for 3rd down backs (like kevin faulk) since you're PPR in the later rounds. (the skins have designated ledell betts as their 3rd down back. not that that means much in the skins offense, except that they will have a LOT of 3rd downs. Should be able to land him in the 12th+).

Good Luck - the last pick can really suck as you watch all the players you want disappear as you wait. Don't get too caught up in worrying about drafting someone "too high" if you've got a spot you need to fill. With 22 turns before you pick again, odds are that guy will be gone.

you need a top QB in your league.

that being said, there is no way Brady/Brees make it past pick 5 and you should be lucky to grab either Manning or Rodgers with pick 12/13. I would parlay the QB with either Fitz, Moss, CJ if they are available... and you could even consider AJ, Smith, Boldin (ya, he'll be good) at that pick or a solid starting RB (slaton? gore? sjax? they will likely each be gone though).

take a look at my predicament: viewtopic.php?t=442852
