I just read earlier this evening that this fear has been confirmed, as not only is Brown officially the short yardage back, but he is the red zone back....Uh oh for Slaton.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak admitted for the first time Thursday that Chris Brown is the team's goal-line back.
"Our goal is to use him basically as a short-yardage runner, a red zone runner and Steve's (Slaton) backup," revealed Kubiak. "He's shown flashes this preseason that he's still got it in him. That's important to our team." Kubiak's statement confirms the widely held speculation that Slaton would lose red zone touches to the bigger back. As a potential vulture, Brown gains some value in TD-heavy leagues Sep. 3 - 7:06 pm et
Chris Brown will be hurt by the 3rd qtr of week 1 and Slaton will be back to short yardage and red zone duties! I don't think Slaton owners have too much to worry about.

That sounds like something a Steve Slaton owner would say to comfort themselves. BIG risk taking a guy top 10 that goes into the season not being the goal line back.

Yes, I am a Slaton owner in one league, but I nabbed him with the 15th pick (before this news was released) and have no need to comfort myself. I never felt he should be drafted in the top 10, especially ahead of the guys who are in feature roles who get goal line carries. Slaton is the perfect fit for Gary Kubiak's zone blocking scheme and barring injury, think he will finish inside the top 10 or barely outside of it. He is used on all downs minus the short yardage situations and inside the 5. He will be used in the redzone and will only be taken out in goal line situations. I am not too worried about it, especially since it is Chris Brown we are talking about here.
