Is this a fair trade?

Postby IronBreaker » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:33 pm

Hey all. Got a question or two for you. I run a premium league at cbssportsline.

One of the guys offered Tom Brady to another team for Lendale White and Brian Westbrook.

(sorry said Michael westbrook at first)

I rejected the trade. As commish I have the final say.

How do you guys gauge a trade? Im getting lambasted from one of the guys that his team needs RB's and is stacked at QB, which he is. But thats not my problem, is it?

This is the second year of a keeper league and this guy took over this team pre-draft (first year for him). He went into the draft fine at QB (Brady, Cutler, Cassell) but then he drafted Matt Stafford and picked up Philip Rivers on the free agent draft. So no duh you're QB heavy...

I try to look at the trade without looking at their team. Brady for white/ Brian westbrook just isnt fair in my book, regardless of what the personal needs are.

How do you guys view this trade, and how do you determine whats fair and what isnt if you are in a position like me?

Thanks.

EDIT:

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I meant Brian Westbrook, PHI RB.

As far as collusion, who can ever be sure? The new guy is friends with the guy he wants to trade with.

No real evidence of collusion there though.

Honestly, I've been a commish on all sorts of leagues (going back to pen and paper leagues here) and the ONLY time I have not allowed trades are:

A) Collusion, plain and simple
B) Abuse -- had a few rookies over the years who didn't know much in the first few weeks

Sounds like to me the trade you vetoed was fair enough. Westbrook for Brady? They're about even on the rankings. As long as nobody's cheating, I just keep my hands off the happenings.
Thank God for Football Season.

I think it is unfair personally. Westbrook and White have more value than Brady. Maybe just Westbrook would be fair. That being said, when I was commish I put the trades to a league vote. If %50 of the teams in the league vote against a trade then it is veteod. I feel this is a more fair way to handle trades as you don't get labeled a Fascist Dictator by your leaguemates for being the one and only judge over trades.

i think it was a mistake... he said michael westbrook (wr?)... if it reads brian westbrook then the trade be allowed.

no collusion, no abuse (i like those standards)
