Some rankings have them just outside the top 5 while others have them as a middle of the road fantasy d.... which is it and why?
Would they be an upgrade over my current New England Patriots D?

The Patriots are going to be a much better defense. Cowboys usually get bonus points on everything because of the name on the uniform. Too many holes. They have a star D-Lineman, one or two decent secondary folks, and the rest are just plugging holes.

They led the NFL with 59 sacks last year, and also have stud LB DeMarcus Ware.
They also rid themselves of the headaches known as Tank Johnson and Pacman Jones...

Meanwhile, the Patriots secondary looks really weak, particularly the corners. Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden... really??
