Which RBs would you pick at 9

Postby jarobert » Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:55 pm

Standard scoring 12 team league.

6pts per TD pass, rush,or reception.

Starting roster includes a offensive utility player that can be a QB.

I'm thinking I should start with an elite WR and QB unless a RB falls to me at 9 that I can't pass on.

Question is who are those RBs?

Does this seem ike sound strategy?

Assuming the draft goes pretty much as expected(AP, MJD, Turner, Forte will be gone) I think Brees and or Brady could be gone as well since it's 6 per TD pass. If DWill or LT were to fall to you I would pick them. Otherwise go WR (Fitz, AL, Moss or CJ) or QB if Brady or Brees is there.

Never go QB in the 1st round. Even if TDs are worth 6 pts, there is better QB value later in the draft. Maybe target Rodgers or Rivers a little later.

I'd also probably pass on a WR at #9 because there is a good chance that one of those 4 will fall to you in the 2nd. Definitely take LT or DWill if they fall but I would expect your choice to be something like SJax or Gore. If all of those RBs are gone (which I don't think they will be) you'd probably be looking at CJ or a WR.

Anyone disagree with this statement...

Never go QB in the 1st round. Even if TDs are worth 6 pts, there is better QB value later in the draft. Maybe target Rodgers or Rivers a little later.

No, I agree with it. You'll be able to get a top tier QB (Rodgers) two or three rounds later and stack up on top tier WRs or RBs instead of taking Brees or Brady and get second tier RBs/WRs.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

I would NEVER draft a QB in the first round, even in 6pt passing TD leagues. Just because passing TDs are worth 6 opposed to 4, does not warrant a QB being selected in the first round. You will be playing catchup the entire draft if you do this and will end up with mediocre RBs or WRs.

RB rankings
LT
Dwill
Sjax
Gore

Grab one of these guys and then grab another RB or stud WR (moss, fitz, aj, or Calvin) with your 2nd round pick! Wait until the 3rd or 4th and target Manning or Rogers. If they are both gone, grab Rivers or Mcnabb in the 4th or 5th. The dropoff between them and Brees/Brady will be much less than the dropoff of the RBs you get in the first round and the RBs drafted in rounds 3 - 5. ;-D

I think that if I don't take a QB 1 or 2, even Rivers is likely to be gone.

Does that change things?

It seems like since I can I want to dtart 2 QBs right?

Also how do the top tier WRs rank compare to the RBs listed?

Oops, missed that you could start two QBs when I read your first post. I should probably make an amendment to my previous statement.

In a twelve team league with 2 QBs and 6pt pass TDs, I would seriously consider going QB/QB and hope for a Brees/Rodgers combo in the first two rounds. Then look for some combination of Colston/K Smith/Grant/Housh/Lynch/Welker/McFadden (in that order of preference) to fall to you in the 3rd/4th. After that, target upside guys like Rice, Moreno, Royal, A Gonzalez, D Brown, L Washington, C Henry to hopefully make up for going QB early. In a twelve team league, always starting two top QBs would give you a huge advantage.
