Wanna check out a CRAZY draft? (WHIR)

Postby jean15paul » Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:07 am

We just had our league draft. It was crazy; I've never seen a draft go like this. The craziness started when the team with 3rd pick took Brees in the 1st round and then the same team took Payton Manning in the 2nd round. And I should emphasize this was NOT a mock, this was for real.

10-team league, we start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K, 1D/ST, standard scoring with lots of bonuses

Anyway, to see the whole draft go here: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e74/j ... C00203.jpg

I picked 4th and here's how my draft went

Michael Turner
Reggie Wayne
Brandon Jacobs
Kevin Smith
Matt Schaub
Roy Williams
Jeremy Shockey
Lee Evans
Carson Palmer
Felix Jones
Devin Hester
Giants D
Ryan Longwell
Anthony Fasano

Your team is looking good. Any idea why that guy took two Qbs back to back like that? I'm surprised MJD went 8th overall too, how exactly does your league score? I'm guessing it's PPR by the players that went in the first round.

It's not really a PPR league, but we do get 3 bonus points at 5 receptions and 5 bonus points at 10 receptions.

It's pretty standard scoring (1pt per 10 rush and receiving yrds, 3 pts per 50 pass yrds, 6 pts per touchdown), but with lots of yardage bonuses.

The guy who took Brees and P. Manning is trying to use them for trade bait. He thinks he'll be able to get a 1st round RB or WR, but I think he's gonna have trouble. Once he did that everyone else compensated and took the QB they needed. A couple of teams could use a QB upgrade, but no one is going to be willing to give up a 1st round pick right out of the gate. Once injuries strike he might be able to strike a trade, but it's a risky stratergy.

I don't know. I've seen MJD go as high as 5th. I think he's a good RB pick after AP, Forte, Turner, and D. Williams.

I would have taken MJD second if I had the option, but Turner should be okay...All the talk of the 370 curse, plus Matt Ryan coming out with a new in toy in Gonzalez (who is not a blocking TE.) make me a little nervous to get him as early as I've seen him go...4th is where I had him on my rankings. I like your team overall, but one thing I definitely would have done differently is I would have gotten my WRs 2nd/3rd or at least had two WRs before I had 3 RBs. In one of my leagues I did the same thing, but I did it because I couldn't pass up on Portis...not Smith. (and I had Andre Johnson...I also got stuck with Roy Williams.) I hope Williams does well, but I would have rather gotten someone like Bowe or Welker and went with Lynch sense you can't start 3 backs and he'll be a stud after week 3...or he should. Here's my ratings:

Michael Turner- ;-D
Reggie Wayne- ;-D
Brandon Jacobs- ;-D best number 2 available along with Barber (I have Barber slightly up)
Kevin Smith- :-) good number three, but I would have waited and settled with McFadden, Lynch, or...rice(?))
Matt Schaub ;-D Love it...I think where people are getting him, he is a steal. (I've got him in 2 of 4 leagues.)
Roy Williams :-? Don't love him as a starter...maybe he'll do better without T.O., but I don't think it will...think about how he did when he WASN'T getting doubled
Jeremy Shockey :-? past his days of being a top TE. Visanthe and Carlson were available and I would have gotten one of them
Lee Evans :-) good number 3, I have a feeling you'll be starting him over Williams
Carson Palmer ;-D Love the backup. may end up being your starter mid season.
(later round picks are always average for what they are...Giants play in a tough division so depending on how scoring works you may consider going week to week.)
Felix Jones
Devin Hester
Giants D
Ryan Longwell
Anthony Fasano

I like Forte after AP. I have concerns about Turner, Williams, and MJD. But I like Turner the best. Williams is sharing carries, and I'm not convinced in MJD plus Jac isn't as good at Atl. I like that Turner isn't sharing carries and that Atl is a run first team with an great offense overall. Turner did have 370 carries last season, but it was really his first season of a full load, so I'm hoping his body is still resilent enough to recover.

I do have the same concern about Roy Williams, but I couldn't pass up Kevin Smith. I think he's gonna have a great season. I'd take him over Portis. (I don't like Portis anymore.) Taking him made me miss out on Welker, Housh, and A.Gonzalez (all of who I like more, but I couldn't take A.Gonzalez because I have Wayne). I agree that Lee Evans my outperform Williams, I was glad I got him.

I think Shockey will have a breakout year. Brees is the best QB he's had in a long time and he like to spread the ball around. And now Shockey has had a full year in the Saints system ... and is healthy. But maybe I'm just a homer (I'm from New Orleans.)

I think the Giants will be good. Our defense scoring is based on big plays(INT, Sacks, Fumbles, TD) and not on yardage or points, so the Giants should put up good numbers.

Thanks for the reply. It was really good insightful and in depth.
