Just finished up my second draft. I feel pretty good about it, but I'd still like to hear from others. Like the title says: 12-team H2H, PPR. I had the 5th selection. I was feeling bad about that slot, but guys fell further than I expected so maybe it worked out for the best (for example, I wasn't expecting to get MJD at #5 in a PPR league).
Scoring is: 30 yds/pt passing, 10 yds/pt rushing, 15 yds/pt receiving, 25 yds/pt returning (punts and kickoffs). 1 pt/reception (all positions). All TDs are 6 pts, all turnovers are -2. Kicker and DEF scoring is pretty normal. We start: QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, TE, K, DEF. Here's how my draft went (selection number is in parentheses):
QB: Schaub (9.05), Garrard (10.08) RB: Jones-Drew (1.05), Barber (4.08), McFadden (6.08), Leon Washington (11.05), James Davis (15.05) WR: Andre Johnson (2.08), Steve "The one from Carolina" Smith (3.05), Wes Welker (5.05), Torry Holt (8.08), Josh Morgan (14.08) TE: Greg Olsen (7.05) K: Elam (13.05) DEF: San Diego (12.08)
QB looks shakiest to me, but that's by design in reaction to how the draft unfolded. 9 QBs went in the 1st 4 rounds, with none of them looking like good value to me. So I tried to "zig" when everyone was "zagging" and scoop up value elsewhere. Schaub's health is probably key, and I don't think Garrard is an awful backup. Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with what I got. Obviously bye week backups for TE, K, and DEF will have to be addressed at some point. I just make it my policy to use the back-end of the draft to take high upside guys at the skill positions, instead of a marginal backup. Weeks 4 and 5 are when those byes hit me, so hopefully I'll have a better idea of who's roster-worthy by that point.
As you'd imagine, the pickings on the FA list are slim. These are the best guys left at the skill positions:
Given how thin some teams are at RB, I'm surprised at some of those guys left over. At the end I gave serious consideration to McCoy instead of Davis. I just went with Davis since he seemed to have more of a natural shot at taking over the starting job - while McCoy's value is dependent upon Westbrook's health (or lack thereof).
And comments/suggestions are welcome. Leave a link and I'll be happy to check out your team.
I can see why you might be worried about your QBs but i consider Schaub in the 9th a steal. He did well last year on a short year, plus he can't go wrong with Andre Johnson and neither will you. I also like Marion Barber falling to you in the 4th round. I assume you're just starting 3 receivers, which means you're really solid there, but you're kind of lacking depth on the bench in both WR and RB. All around a solid team, especially for a 12teamer. Nice job. Please help back. viewtopic.php?t=444553
Legitimate question here...Are the people you draft with idiots? Your team is stacked. Your WRs are amazing. I haven't seen Johnson fall that far in any draft this year. He went in the first round in the three i was in. And Smith should be a monster again. You are correct about the QBs, but it looks to me like you could leave that roster spot open and you would still blow out most teams.Congratulations on winning your league....
very nice squad for a 12 teamer. your wr's are awesome in the ppr format. how does aj fall to number 20 overall and barber in the 4th round. you team has no weakness except for possibly at qb, but if schaub can avoid the injury bug, your team should win it all.

Actually, I've played with these guys in a few leagues and they're usually pretty good. Last year I finished 5-8 - but it was pretty hard-luck (I had one of the highest point totals in the league, but really bad luck with matchups). The drafting wasn't that bad this year ... only one team was making consistently dubious choices (like Rodgers at 2.01, and the Steelers in round 4). But it was strange - every round there'd be a shocking drop and I tried to jump on as many as I could. Because of my horrible season last year, I'm really gunning for a comeback.
They must have been confused by the settings. In a PPR league with return yardage, Leon Washington is probably a legit #2 RB. You got him in the 11th round. That's unbelievable. I picked him in like the 10th round of my 14 team PPR and thought I got a steal.
Your team is incredible, plain and simple. RB is absurd, especially in PPR. WR is one of the best PPR teams you can build, with both Welker and Andre Johnson. You have an awesome TE as well, and two potential breakout QBs.
