Tricky trade and waiver question WHIR

Postby Pats4four » Thu Sep 10, 2009 8:00 am

A guy in my league just offered me Rivers and Daniels for my Brandon Jacobs. What do you guys think about it, I've put both our rosters down below so you can see. In addition, I've got to pick up a defense and kicker as well so which two players could I possibly drop or trade away?

My team

QB Schub, Edwards
RB SJax, Jacobs, K. Smith, Lynch, F. Jones, JJ, McCoy, Rice
WR Boldin, 85, Bowe, Cotchery
TE Carlson, Celek

His Team

QB Rodgers, Rivers
RB Portis, Brown, Benson
WR Fitz, S. Moss, Coles, A Gonz, Hester, Harvin
Te Olsen, Daniels

Leave a link and I'll help you.

Well I don't think the trade improves your team much. Schaub could turn out to be as equal as Rivers. You do have great rb depth. I think instead of dropping I would target somebody who needs RB's and upgrade your backend WR's. I'd tried Rivers, Gonzo for Jacobs, Edwards and see if he bites.

Jacobs can be monster so I don't like this trade. Assuming this is a non-PPR league I like this trade:

You give Jacobs then you get his better tight end, Olsen. You also get Anthony Gonzolez. If he wants Jacobs make him pay for it. If he doesn't bite give him Cotchery who I think is over-rated this year.

You: Jacobs and maybe Cotchery
Him: Olsen and Anthony Gonzolez.

Me again, another thought. Why are you giving up who is arguably your best back for his backups? Another way to work this is you get Rodgers and Olsen, not Rivers and Daniels. His team wouldn't suffer much of a downgrade, is any, but you might just get a big enough boost to put you over the hump.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not that sold on Jacobs being my number 2 to be honest and I much prefer a platoon of Jacobs, K. Smith and Lynch once he's back so that's why I'm not opposed to trading him. Furthermore, I'm not sold on Schaub being healthy all year so I want another good QB to pair and of the two, I think Rivers is a slightly safer bet than Rodgers although both are good. I think the Olsen idea is a good one as him and Carlson would both be great in a platoon again.

I agree with others, that you can do better if you are trading away Jacobs.

You have tremendous RB depth, so I'd be looking at other trades...

Maybe try to package K Smith/Bowe for one of the top WRs, if one of those owners is desperate for RB

Or wait a few weeks, when Lynch, F Jones, McCoy and Rice may have soared in value.

A platoon of guys doesn't help you if that platoon is on the bench. Why trade for guys that aren't much better then what you have? Depth? Get value here. You have plenty of RB depth so you can afford to trade, but when you do make sure you get starters, not guys you can't start every week.

I think Olsen will huge this year. Several fantasy pros think so too. Right now, at this moment, his value is not as high as it will be in a few weeks. This trade may be the thing to do to get those 5 extra points every week that puts you over the top. I think if you can get rodgers too, do it.
