I usually panic after the first game and make a few rash decisions to add/drop then regret them later when my initial gut reaction was right and the guys I drop end up doing good. Anybody below worth dropping to get: 1. Cadillac Williams 2. Mike Bell 3. Edgerrin James 4. David Clowney (WR, NYJ) 5. Andre Davis (WR, Hou) 6. Sidney Rice (WR, Min) 7. Justin Fargas
MY ROSTER: Redraft league, no PPR, 6 points all TDs, rushing/receiving yards get same amt of points
QB Drew Brees (NO) RB Marion Barber (Dal) Kevin Smith (Det) Knowshon Moreno (Den) Rashard Mendenhall (Pit) Willis McGahee (Bal) LeSean McCoy (Phi) Leon Washington (NYJ) Glen Coffee (SF) James Davis (Cle) WR Randy Moss (NE) Anthony Gonzalez (Ind) Braylon Edwards (Cle) Devin Hester (Chi) Chris Henry (Cin) Nate Burleson (Sea) TE Greg Olsen (Chi) DEF Dallas
Drop Moreno for Bell... Bell is going to see a lot of the workload this year. Moreno has injury issues and he's in Denver! They have about 15 different running backs every season!
I think that Chris Henry will be a wasted roster spot for this season. He has 2 established top quality NHL WR's ahead of him and he's never see more than spot duties in any game. He might go nuts and scroe 15 points in 1 game but they will be so few and far between that you'd never have him in your starting lineup anyways. The only way I see him ever getting a chance and being on someones starting roster would be if Ocho or Coles goes down for the season AND Henry comes out of the woodwork (unlikely IMO).
McGahee is probably a wasted roster spot too but you never know, he might just win back his starting job. However, even if he DOES get the starting job back the seem to be set on using a RBBC system in Balt. I can't see ever playing him either but he's more likely to fine his way on to your starters list than Henry IMO.
Of the guys you listed as possible pick ups, forget Bell, forget Edge, forget Fargus and forget Clowny (a rookie QB on the Jets throwing the ball?? Can you spell N-I-G-H-T-M-A-R-E). Davis is the 3rd WR in Houston so he's not going to be getting many looks and his QB also has to finally stay healthy so I'm not liking him either. I personally still like Caddy, I think he's going to see more than 50% of the work load even though they said tey are going to rotate between the 3 backs they have. I'm sorry fo all though guys who are in love with Ward but he's just not that good. I've watched him play the last 2 seasons and if he's in any role other than spelling Caddy once ever 3 series he flat out wont be effective.
However, as much as I personally like Caddy, the first guy I'd grab would be Rice. Favre ALWAYS makes one reciever on his team a star and we don't know for certain that it's going to be Berrian this year. If Favre developes early chemistry with Rice then he'll get him the ball no matter what and Favre still has enough to make quality recievers look like stars (yes, Rice is a quality reciever and Favre CAN make him look like a star). However, if it's Berrian whom Favre likes then Rice will end up being a dud.
Considering risk vs reward, I'd drop Henry for Rice right now and I'd keep a close eye on the McGahee/Caddy situation and jump on that early if Caddy is looking like the man in TB.
That was GREAT feedback, thanks. I was surprised, and a little glad I guess, that you didn't mention Mendenhall. Looks like everybody is dumping him after his awesome performance last night. I'm still holding out hope for him.
What, are they going to run Peyton Hillis as their feature back all year? Buckhalter is a stopgap. He'll be the 3rd down guy there as soon as Moreno gets back. Moreno will not remain on your wire, for you to fix the mistake.
I like Henry this year. I think he'll easily be top 30 WR, which is not a big deal, but I think he has potential for more than just that, with Ocho getting double covered all season.
You are in a non PPR league... Leon Washington will never crack your lineup... I mean, you need a Thomas Jones injury for that to even be remotely possible, and he's pretty solid... he plays through injury like few else can. Leon is awesome, but he's so unpredictably usable... only a starter in PPR or kick return leagues, IMO. I drop him.
You're putting some extra stock in some guys that may not have value. Glen Coffee. You need a Frank Gore injury. IMO Drop him for ANY of the players you listed.
LeSean... needs a Westy injury... but I think you can count on that happening... James Davis... looked good in preseason, and I can see stashing him, but you may just be wasting that space all year. Rashard... looked awful all preseason, looked terrible on Thursday night. Let's see him in action against another defense. Week 1, monster D. Week 2, monster run D. Week 3... if he doesn't put up numbers against the Browns, I think he's drop-able. Look at that Steeler schedule... total feast/famine for RB!
I think you could use help at RB, and do you ONLY have Drew Brees, or do you have a backup? If no backup, you have to get that sorted out too!
1. Cadillac Williams - I am afraid of the Shanny-esque RBBC possibilities here. 2 great backup RBs... I have a hard time seeing Caddy get more than 50% of the carries. Still, maybe worth a pickup. 2. Mike Bell - I love him for the next couple of weeks, but he will have a significant decline in value when everyone else is healthy, IMO. 3. Edgerrin James - Is he used up? 4. David Clowney (WR, NYJ) - I think you're okay at WR 5. Andre Davis (WR, Hou) - I think you're okay at WR
I'd rather see you get a backup QB or more RB help. 6. Sidney Rice (WR, Min) 7. Justin Fargas
Thanks, very helpful! Unfortunately I was going to grab Hasselbeck or Palmer both of which were available later than expected and they got snatched the two spots before my pick. The dropoff seemed so sharp now I was (a) hoping nothing happened to Brees, and (2) some of my gambles would pay off where I could trade for a backup QB a little into the season. The only "real" QBs out there are:
Orton Pennington Quinn Bulger Kerry Collins Jason Campbell Matthew Stafford Mark Sanchez
