Pats franchise QB Cassel

Postby FFslacker » Thu Feb 05, 2009 10:11 pm

The Patriots have assigned the franchise tag to QB Matt Cassel, as expected.
The franchise number for Cassel is $14.65 million, which is similar to Tom Brady's cap charge. The real intrigue comes with the next move. If the Pats are comfortable with Brady's rehab and the development of last year's third-rounder Kevin O'Connell, they can dangle Cassel for a couple of draft picks. The other options include working out a deal with Cassel to act as insurance against a possible Brady setback, or letting him play out the season on a one-year deal. Feb. 5 - 5:11 pm et

Don't think this comes to any surprise to anyone.

Nope, this was pretty much a foregone conclusion IMO - it's just official now ;-)

No surprise. This proves the uncertainty of Brady.

Trade- Cassel to KC

Postby Kareighuis » Sat Feb 28, 2009 1:28 pm

Rotoworld says-

"NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel has been traded to the Chiefs.

The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss has confirmed the news, which is part of the trade sending Mike Vrabel to Kansas City. There were rumors Cassel could be involved in a three-team swap, but it appears Kansas City will be his final destination. Compensation has not been announced, but it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started."

This is what I like to classify as a 'WTH' trade. I mean yes you get Vrabel but he's old. You have a QB in Thigpen who did amazing for what he had last season and considering it was his rookie year, COME ON.
i still hate the steelers...

Cassel's knee

Postby kingmike74 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 4:37 pm

Anyone got anything on Matt Cassel's hurt knee. Not very risky taking him in rnd 11 but as a backup to my starter Palmer.. :-o

I would drop Bowe about 2-3 spots in WR rankings without Cassel. No matter the QB, KC will be throwing a ton I think.

Nobody has news on his injury? He got up and went back to the huddle, then left, so maybe it's an ACL or MCL?

Thigpen was pretty good last year, so i think Bowes value would be about the same. Read that cassel's injury doesn't look serious.
